Judgement is definitely on my game of the year list. The dialog, the gameplay and the visual representation are simply stellar. While it hasn’t been that long with something this heavy in narrative with plenty of gameplay, Judgement just feels like the whole package from the get go and holds on to what makes it so great even hours down the line.
Nelke & The Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the World is a unique look at the Atelier franchise’s worl outside of the mainstream titles. Lighthearted as it may be, it still feels shallow, though well-designed and full of things do to on a casual level. While fun, interest easily wanes after an hour or two, though its art, voice acting, and overall scope should not be taken lightly. Nelke & The Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the World is a niche title best suited to those that are deep in the fandom of the Atelier Franchise.
Outward is a fun, challenging, if empty and slightly misguided, open-world roleplaying game where death is not only common, but guaranteed (do not be like me and accidentally drink the salt water; you will die … fast). Beautiful but hollow, Outward is an absolute must for those looking for something different, but be warned, you might bite off more than you can choose.
As a mesh of genres, Golem Gates succeeds more often than not. I love the CCG genre and found it to be a pretty interesting mix with the RTS one that Golem Gates builds its foundation upon. Expanding on my collection and editing my deck was entertaining and the core gameplay is quite interesting as well. I do wish there was a bit more variety in the types of missions and the multiplayer really does not do much of anything for me, but on the whole Golem Gates is a solid offering.
Layers of Fear 2 is not going to be for everyone. It has a distinctive flavor even among horror games, and the movement controls can sometimes come across as a bit clunky and some of the narrations do not hold up with the overall really good voice acting found in the majority of the game. Those concerns aside however, I have to say that Bloober Team knows how to play with a person's senses, heighten tension skillfully and pay that off with some pretty solid scares in a new environment that diverges from what they used last time around.
Atelier Lulua is a great game. Cruising through the story at a great pace and never tripping over my own feet to understand the gameplay. If I had to describe this game in one word it would be "Simplicity", as it does a wonderful job of guiding you through each and every new and old discoveries. I'm glad to be able to experience a 4th part to the Arland storyline. It's fun for long time fans to enjoy and easy enough to grasp for newcomers. I'm giving this game a 9 out of 10 for being nostalgic and playful.
... it’s a real quack up of a game, and you’d best check it out if you’re looking for some multiplayer games for your switch and are into rogue-likes. It’s a fine-feathered time.
With solid music, fun gameplay, and the cutest stack I’ve ever seen, give Lapis Labyrinth a shot if you’re in the mood for a hectic platforming dungeon delve!
So overall, mashing up the likes of .Hack or Sword Art Online's being trapped in a digital world, MeiQ's character design and finally a penchant for the macabre, and you have one of the better titles this partnership have ever put out which in the past couple years is a fair amount of praise. Whether fans of RPGs or JRPGs, Death End re;Quest is worth grabbing either on the PC or on the PS4 where it was already available.
Rock of Ages has released for a bunch of platforms now, and the port to the switch has gone pretty well. If you haven’t picked it up on another platform, and are looking for a good game to play in your spare time or with a friend, give Rock of Ages 2 a roll, I’m sure it will be smashing!
Overall, whether playing on a keyboard or with a controller from the couch, Vambrace: Cold Soul is an adventure worth having. While not being an RPG in the traditional leveling up sense, there's plenty here to enjoy and the experience itself while being dark and snowy is still a very pretty one to look at with its choice of color palette.
If you are a fan of Guanzhong's fantastic tale, there is an undeniable charm to Total War: Three Kingdoms that had me smiling from ear to ear on many occasions. First-time encounters with familiar characters, seeing how the developers envisioned a particular location or watching a scene play out differently in the game from the way it went in the book were all fascinating, enjoyable experiences for me that might not resonate the same way with someone who is unfamiliar with the source material.
World End Syndrome is super user friendly, intriguing, has a really fitting soundtrack, and totally drew me in almost from the get-go. If you enjoy interactive novels, World End Syndrome is definitely an experience you probably don’t want to miss. So come and unravel the mystery behind the Yomibito, and join us in our World End Syndrome.
There is a target audience for Sniper Elite V2 Remastered - but it is something of a narrow one. If you are late to the Sniper series, having only played it on the current generation of systems and are curious what came before, this is an excellent way to go back and experience an earlier release in the series. That being said, if you are not a fan of the Sniper games or you already own the original, there is probably not enough reason to go back to the well yet again here. There are some improvements to be had here, but not enough to really differentiate this updated version dramatically from its prior release.
Overall, Touhou: Gensokyo Defenders may not be the best Action Tower Defense out there, but it’s a good one. With many different characters and loads of stages, it’s provides a fun time and the craziness that Touhou is renowned for.
This game has done nothing but surprise me. I never would have thought I would find myself so immersed in this historical, war ridden adventure. The story is deep and the characters are engaging, with a fantastic script we are gifted with the talented voices of Mathew Mercer, Robbie Daymond, Jennifer Hale and Crispin Freeman. The combat is fun and easy enough to follow and can also provide a challenge to keep the gears in your mind turning, but in a way that allows you to customize the outcome of a battle. Maquerada: Songs and Shadow is definitely a RPG game I would recommend to anyone who can get their hands on it. 10 out of 10 in my books.
The biggest reason I personally love Whispers is because of its themes. Not only does the game shock players fairly quickly, it then drops a proverbial bomb on them. Players are exposed to themes of creation, technology, religion, terrorism, and relationships. And the way all of these topics are woven into the story is actually quite brilliant. In fact, it is done well enough that I was horrified at the very idea of this game becoming a reality in the future.
Overall, Our World is Ended is a game that's not quite there, but does have a sudden change in momentum that keeps you at the edge of your chair. With the strange dialogue arcing across the screen, to very lengthy moments of pure storytelling where half the conversation is nothing but boob jokes, and default Japanese controls. It does redeem itself with beautiful water painted scenarios and up to beat music. This game is definitely more for players that are looking for a visually entertaining adventure where their only worry is to press B.
Excellent visuals, a well-thought out system of combat and character progression compliment a mostly good if sometimes inconsistent story to make Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark one of the most entertaining strategy games I have played in some time. There is room for improvement in a few areas, but the overall package is certainly an impressive, enjoyable one that I can easily recommend to fans of the genre.
Even with the shift in direction that A Plague Tale: Innocence takes almost two third down the line, it’s still a fantastic experience. Asobo Studio have done a marvelous job with the characters, the dialog, and the mesh of the three gameplay styles that they have knit together as they seamlessly go together and never feel out of place.
