ThisGenGaming's Reviews

Overall I came away from Atelier Ryza very impressed and I think longtime fans and newcomers will be very happy with this game. The change to a more real-time combat system is good choice to me as it made battles far more engaging. Likewise some of the changes to the alchemy system make it more approachable to series newcomers while still having depth for those who are into this franchise. The graphics are beautiful and the story was satisfying despite taking a bit to get going. A few things here and there can be improved but overall this is an excellent new entry in this long running JRPG series.

7 / 10.0 - Brukel
Nov 9, 2019

Brukel Game is a truly authentic experience, a digital museum of a certain moment in time, eternalizing the memories of a World War II survivor. And for that I applaud it. The game itself feels a bit dated and the experience is rather short-lived, but I can really recommend a playthrough. I believe the game should even earn itself a place in the history curriculum of Belgian schools and I would certainly not mind seeing more games like this being made.

7 / 10.0 - Dusk Diver

I enjoyed it for what it was but I do wish the world had more to do in it and that it wasn’t over quite so soon.

8 / 10.0 - Cat Quest II
Nov 4, 2019

This isn’t a game for those who like deep combat systems or a deep story in their RPGs. Rather it’s a game with a colorful world, well designed characters, and great sense of humor that anyone of any age can sit down and enjoy.

9 / 10.0 - Worse Than Death
Oct 31, 2019

There really isn’t much more I can say about Worse Than Death other then that you should pick it up if you enjoy horror games. It has a very appealing price point and you can enjoy it’s horrific pixel art world and story in just a few hours.

8.5 / 10.0 - Raging Loop
Oct 28, 2019

This is a long game but I just kept on playing it because I was just so into the idea and mystery behind it. I’ve never been into Kemco’s other types of games but if they keep on making things like Raging Loop then count me in.

If you’re looking for a solid little shooter to kill some time with then Door Kickers: Action Squad is worth a look. The option to play with another player either locally or online is a great addition and the game is much more fun when doing so as it can help from the repetitiveness of the game from sinking in.

7.5 / 10.0 - Carnage Tower
Oct 21, 2019

When a group gets together it is always nice to have choices that are accessible to all players. Carnage Tower is one of those games. You likely won’t see me spending dozens of hours trying to tackle the 100 floor gauntlet, nor will it be at the top of my favorite games of 2019. What it will be, however, is a game that may get attention when novice gamers and I want to get our hands on something simple and fun.

8.5 / 10.0 - Megaquarium
Oct 19, 2019

Despite some nitpicks with the visuals in the game Megaquarium is a great addition to any tycoon fan’s library. The transition to console feels natural and great thanks to an intuitive control scheme and the game will keep you busy with a huge variety of aquatic life and items to grow your aquarium with.

5 / 10.0 - AeternoBlade II
Oct 19, 2019

Sadly if you didn’t really enjoy the first AeternoBlade I’m not sure you’ll like this one much more. The story will be confusing to anyone who didn’t play the original and even to someone like me who did it still wasn’t very interesting. The bad writing and voice over work just further drags the story down.

BDSM isn’t a bad twin-stick shooter at all it just doesn’t feel like it does anything original from a gameplay perspective.

The beautifully drawn visuals and soundtrack that always seems to fit what is going on further makes this a standout visual novel. If you enjoy this genre this is one you shouldn’t miss.

7 / 10.0 - A Knight's Quest

In the end if you want something a bit deeper on the combat side look elsewhere but if you’re fine with a big world to explore and simple combat mechanics consider taking on this quest.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is an almost perfect remake of a classic title.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition on the Nintendo Switch might not be the best version of this game available but it is the only one that you can play on the go. At its budget price I highly recommend it even though it doesn’t have any new content that the PS4 and Xbox One versions don’t have.

7.5 / 10.0 - Agatha Knife
Sep 30, 2019

There is no doubt that the subject matter that Agatha Knife is built on won’t be for everyone but if any of this sounds interesting to you than I recommend it. It isn’t challenging and the controls can use some tuning but I love the art style the developers went with for this game and the dark story mixed with humor was enjoyable from start to finish for me.

I never played these games until they released on consoles a couple years ago but Amnesia: Collection became one of my favorite horror games once I finally did get that chance to play it. The graphics do show their age but I still feel like it’s a must play collection of horror games for anyone who hasn’t experienced it.
