The Game Fanatics's Reviews

The years since its original release have not treated Oceanhorn well. As a mobile game, it's a decent experience, and with a play time of around 10 hours, probably one of the closest experiences you'll find to a console-like adventure game. On an actual console though, Oceanhorn is substandard and lacking in any real substance that would make it worth the time. While limited, the Switch already has numerous experiences that are a much better use of money in its library with more on the way each week. Try as it may, Oceanhorn is not quite the nostalgic Zelda clone it hopes to be, turning out as a tedious adventure walking in the shadow of its inspiration.

4 / 10.0 - Secret Ponchos

Secret Ponchos is terribly marred by connection problems and lack of content but it's biggest vice is it's underpopulated lobbies.

If you've enjoyed "Destiny" and are looking for more of what you've already enjoyed, then this will scratch your itch, though not very efficiently. But if you're looking for something new and interesting in the world of "Destiny," give this a pass.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a mediocre spin-off. There's some charm and fun to be had, but it is not worth suffering through the tedium.

Despite all these flaws, I still had the urge to return to Immortals. Journeying across a big open world and witnessing Greek legends come to life is enthralling for short bursts of time. That is what kept me intrigued enough to progress through the game: seeing and interacting with the mythological characters I've read about for years. Immortals is bland and frustrating at times, but just interesting enough to be worth a recommendation if you enjoy some light mythology and open world collectathons.

If you love Star Wars and want to play online with friends, you be better off picking up the Ultimate Edition of the original Star Wars Battlefront or just wait until this embarrassment is in the bargain bin. The Force is not with this one.

5.1 / 10.0 - Koi
Apr 19, 2016

Koi is at its best in the brief interludes between fish and flower, when you're simply inside this environment doing what fish do best. That's where the gameplay and small environments rip you from the edge of tranquility to be ushered into the next area, and also where this experience falters heavily.

Natural Doctrine is a punishingly difficult strategy game but if you stick with it, you may just find it to be extremely rewarding.

5.5 / 10.0 - FAST STRIKER

Fast Strikers is a title that is fun to play once or twice but doesn't have longevity or content to enjoy much longer than that.

Neverending Nightmares has a promising concept that drew me in, but the story is shallow and the focus is more on disturbing gore than psychological horror. Forgettable, average and hard to recommend to anyone.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes nails most of the elements of a good Souls-like. Exploring the world and striving to reach that next safe point replicates the feeling of playing a Souls game. The pixelated art style of the game is phenomenal and the music is extraordinary. Unfortunately, the combat needs some polishing before I can wholeheartedly recommend the game. Since last I’ve played, the developers have posted an update with changes to the combat system requested by the community. The implemented changes seem like they may improve the combat significantly and show that the developers are involved and active with their product. With these changes, and more on the way, I feel comfortable in recommending Morbid: The Seven Acolytes to non-squeamish fans of the Souls series.

If you are a fan of Dynasty Warriors, there is some mindless fun to be had here, but the open-world design spreads the fun so thin that it is more tedious than exhilarating.

6.6 / 10.0 - Mainlining
Feb 8, 2017

I think these questions are invaluable to ask yourself after you finish the game because there isn’t a correct answer. These are the same questions hackers in the real world deal with daily, how far is too far to do something for the greater good? Mainlining may not be the most unique game play experience you will play all year but it certainly brings up questions and ideas that you will be playing out in your head long after the last suspect is caught.

In my 26 hours of playtime, I finished the main story, saw a bunch of optional conversations, and completed 45% of the side quests. It’s fun in a mindless sort of way and it isn’t terrible but you’re not missing anything by skipping it.
