Every time Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama, and Koichi Sugiyama reunite to churn out a video game, the whole world trembles and distorts itself in order to bow before their new creature. In this sense, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of a Lost Era is no exception to the rule, offering the player a very classic but always original plot. Even if the user had in fact the unpleasant feeling of being in front of something already seen or taken for granted, the narrative canvas of the product would be able to successfully erase any suspicion, proposing unpredictable events and capable of making even the most experienced JRPG experts pale.

A very traditional sequel of a little indie cult: Juan's return is still OK, but ultimately lacks the inspiration and the freshness that made the original so great. Maybe Guacamelee! was simply a better game overall, or maybe smash hits such as Hollow Knight and Dead Cells changed the face of the metroidvania genre for good: eventually Guacamelee! 2 leaves a pretty nice impression, but one that's far from the stellar debut.

As the interactive medium evolves, the tastes of enthusiasts change. A refined and rare work, but also unfortunate as Okami is, today it can be enjoyed on any platform by a potential audience certainly wider, but also more open to experimentalism. Switch's white page paints itself of the warm colors of Amaterasu's epic, thanks to a technically impeccable conversion aimed at making excellent use of Nintendo console technology, capable of making lustre and justice to the shining gem of Clover Studio and Capcom. Extremely recommended for lovers of the arts and culture of Japan.

Addictive, punitive as never before and very fast, Dead Cells is a title that mixes two kinds of poles apart, but it does so by building foundations that are difficult to demolish.
The arrival of Monster Hunter World on PC is not as triumphant as you would have expected. However, excluding technical and netcode issues, Capcom's impressive creature scratches as on console. It is curated, full of details, endowed with a surprising artistic imagery, especially with regard to the aesthetics of monsters. And it is also a pleasure to play, to master in its meticulous facets of gameplay, in the mathematical refinement of a build. Whether you play it just to experience the intoxication of facing a legendary beast, or to be caught by the wildest farming, Monster Hunter World knows how to guarantee a lot of satisfaction. And its value also lies in the scalability of the experience that - it is true - is not yet perfect, but it has certainly taken the right path.

NieR Automata is now available for Xbox One, and this news should be enough, on its own, to get all microsoft console owners to purchase the ticket. The work of Platinum Games directed by Yoko Taro is an explosion of virtuosity mixed with artistic suggestions of various kinds, which draw as much from the video game industry as from cinema and the best science fiction literature; the whole thing is amalgamated in a playful formula as solid as it is courageous, which continues to find its weakest points in an end game too poor for an action RPG and in a technical sector that lends its side to some drop in performance in the face of such adrenaline-pumping and spectacular gameplay. The Become as Gods Edition on Xbox introduces many small improvements to the defects outlined so far, bringing to the shelves of the users of the Redmond giant a definitive and more refined version in relation to the original.

This is not the average campaign add-on you might legitimately expect: Octo Expansion offers a far more demanding (and not always 100% fair) experience. A series of 80 levels that will definitely engage hardcore veterans, but that at the same time might turn off players not too fond of game over screens.

Colorful, intuitive, deep and incredibly fun, Mario Tennis Aces is truly something for everyone, from casual newcomers to seasoned hardcore gamers. Hollow Knight arrives on consoles after the successes achieved in the PC field last year. Born thanks to the Kickstarter campaign launched by the very small Australian studio Team Cherry, the metroidvania that decides to debut on Switch in its passage on consoles reconfirms itself as one of the best exponents of this genre that has returned to fashion in recent years. Enriched by an inspired artistic direction like few others, Hollow Knight guarantees its buyers at least fifteen hours of challenge and entertainment.

ONRUSH is definitely not the typical arcade racer you might expect from the people that brought you the MotorStorm series: it's a weird, fascinating and imperfect alternative take on the genre, one that says no to the finish line in favor of team work and mechanics taken from different genres. Despite its limits it certainly works, but not for everybody (and probably not at 70€).

Yoku's Island Express is one of those titles to be valued without reserve, hoping to send a message to the market and the development team, and to have an ecosystem populated by less approved and braver projects.
For 29.99€ you'll bring yourself home more than fifty titles that changed the gaming history in the early 90s: SEGA Mega Drive Classics is definitely a reasonable package, one that's pretty well built considering the variety of the selection and the online support. Not everything has aged properly, but it's still well worth it (especially at this price and during this seemingly never-ending wave of nostalgia).
