5 / 10.0 - Shadwen
May 24, 2016

Shadwen, unfortunately, has proved to be a messy bunch of ideas, unable to involve the player in its narrative context, which could be interesting, but has been developed too superficially. Same goes for the gameplay mechanics, made of concepts taken from other games and put together almost with no consistency.

Total War Warhammer is a another great success for Creative Assembly. The factions are extremely diversified and, although some beloved units are missing, the variety of strategies and playstile is impressive. The RPG-Style hero management, the new flying units, the introduction of side quests and of a loot system: every feature intelligently expand the classic formula of Total War.

Those who had fun with Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken will find everything that featured that joyful experience, with its quite rough irony that was yet able to bring a smile. The others might have to take Rocketbirds 2: Evolution in a more cautious way, because of its weak control system and lack of content.

The new Homefront does not excel in any field, carrying the wounds of a troubled development. The gameplay is too rough, the AI unrefined, the campaign very short (unless you get involved in the tedious subquests). The biggest fault of The Revolution, though, is the decision to re-write the setting, trivializing the impressive work that John Milius did for the first chapter.

MegaTagmension is an extremely niche product, made of pure and simple fanservice, reserved strictly to the fans but without any attention to the design itself, which is necessary to guarantee a real entertaining and interesting game experience.

6.3 / 10.0 - Shadow of the Beast
May 16, 2016

Shadow of the Beast is a tribute and a modernization of the namesake action game that Psygnosis developed in 1989 on Amiga Computer. It shows some impressive art works, a captivating style, and create an original setting, but the story mode is impressively short and the gameplay is far from being well designed and responsive.

7 / 10.0 - ecotone
May 16, 2016

Ecotone is a bidimensional platform that change it's gameplay in every stage. You can find some level inspired by the classics (Mario and Ryaman) and other that "salvage" some ideas from the indie scene (VVVVVV or Super Meat Boy). It's a nice intuition, but the game feels somehow disjointed.

9 / 10.0 - Stellaris
May 15, 2016

As many other videogames developed by Paradox, Stellaris speaks to a very small niche. Complex and uncompromising, it shows an impressive effort to bring the gameplay of a Grand Strategy Game into the space.

8.8 / 10.0 - Doom
May 13, 2016

Exaggerated, violent, ruthless. Bethesda and idSoftware took the essence of the shooters you played in the 90s and rewrote it with a modern language. DOOM is an unstoppable FPS, with a bloodthirsty single player campaing and a solid Multiplayer, unfortunately showing some balancing problems.

7.5 / 10.0 - Kathy Rain
May 13, 2016

Kathy Rain is an great adventure, that combines a vintage look to an intense and strong story. Given the quality of the plot and the variety of puzzles, we can forgive the presence of some streotypical characers.

5.5 / 10.0 - 8-Bit Armies
May 12, 2016

After the interesting Grey Goo, Petroglyph delivers an old-school strategy game with a retro look. Don't expect the complexity of the masterpieces you played in the 90's, though: 8-Bit Armies has a poor strategic value and all the matches looks the same.

Shadow Complex needed a lifting. The remastered edition improves some post-processing effects, add some new textures, and in the end remains the great metroidvania that Chair developed few years ago. The uninteresting story is the biggest letdown of the game, that stands out when it comes to gameplay and level design.

Valkyria Chronicles lands on PlayStation 4 with the same determination that it had eight years ago. The game is still brilliant, thanks to its intense story and a solid gameplay. This current-gen version won't have a top-notch look, but includes some interesting DLCs.

6.5 / 10.0 - Battleborn
May 6, 2016

The PvE and co-op experience that Battleborn provides is futile and scarcely interesting. On the PvP side Gearbox's title proves more whorty, but the game has too many gameplay issues to stand out in the competitive moba-like scene.

Uncharted 4 is one of the best action game ever created. The story doesn't have the same emotional impact of The Last of Us, but it bravely focus on the characters and their relationships. On the other side the tension, the diversity, the pace and the aesthetic value of Nate's last adventure is something we never experienced before.

Offworld Trading Company is a futuristic simulation of what would be the economy on Mars: gathering resources, upgrading extraction posts, keeping up with the price fluctuations. Funny, but still complex and demanding at the same time.

Fire Emblem Fates is hands down one of the best strategic title ever created. The two branches of the story, Conquest and Birthright, bring new elements on the formula and deliver a solid and unforgettable experience.

8 / 10.0 - SpeedRunners
May 4, 2016

Speedrunners is based on very simple concept, but still it's lively, and with its skill based matches, velocity can be felt in every single frame. Thanks to its well designed multiplayer mode, the DoubleDutch work can also be played as quite peculiar party game.

8 / 10.0 - Fragments of Him
May 3, 2016

Fragments of Him deals with a complex theme, not so easily represented in videogames: death. During the two-hour long path that leads the player to the end, the Sassybot team ask us to reflect on the sense and the consequences of the loss, but also on the value of objects and memories. Wheter or not Fragments of Him was able to reach its goal may be subjective, but the game and the concept are still admirable.

Once Upon a Climb surpasses the first two episodes, thanks to a funny screenplay, a couple of stimulating old-school puzzles, and some breath-taking areas. By far the best chapter in the series, with an interesting backstory that finally emerges.
