Overall, Tower Of Guns is a stunning example of how old-school design is still relevant and fun in today's industry.
Overall, everything in Burial at Sea - Episode 2 is done well and careful consideration has been put intoeverything. Whilst on the short side, It's a brilliant end to the Burial at Sea storyline and a brilliant way to finish off BioShock Infinite.
Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae cheapness and poor presentation mask what is legitimately a great action game.
Devastation is another average map pack addition to Ghosts, helped to keep its head above water by an entertaining new Extinction map. Don't expect anything other than more of the same here.
Sprinting out of the starting blocks like Usain Bolt, Kinect Sports Rivals quickly pulls over short of the finish line and soils itself like Paula Radcliffe. Two of the six sports on offer here pack a real punch, with the others lagging way behind. A valiant effort, if not a lot more else. A genuine attempt at highly competitive sports are hampered by a needlessly convoluted interface.
Windforge is the shadow of the game that it should have been. There's plenty of systems here that should be great, but the package doesn't quite come together - primarily due to a lack of multiplayer, but also due to a number of design issues. Those who prefer their sandbox games as a solo experience will likely be thrilled with the RPG elements, while others should probably steer their airship clear of Windforge.
Super Motherload feels expertly hand-crafted and exudes more love and care than any AAA game could ever hope to. An inspiration to developers everywhere that balance and understanding of pace can carry even the most simple of games. Besides its small flaws Super Motherload is not only an example of a small game done right but, frankly, a joy to play.
Warlock 2 is an interesting game. Fulfilling quests and establishing a foothold in new worlds is satisfying but the city-building side of the title is disappointingly limited and holds you back more often than it makes things interesting. However, if you want a strategy with a greater sense of progress and purpose, or just an interesting alternative to Sid Meier's output, it's well worth a look.
Ether One is a sobering and thoughtful journey filled with intrigue and contemplation, rounded out with well-crafted and optional puzzle sections. This isn't the kind of game which will appeal to everyone and if it's action you're after, I'd advise going elsewhere. However, if the prospect of experiencing a truly captivating story wrapped up in a exploration based puzzle game is an attractive one, then Ether One delivers and won't disappoint.
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile is a mixed bag. It's certainly the weakest episode of the series to date, but it is still an entertaining story that drives the investigation forwards, closing off some leads and opening up others. While it may not be the most thrilling ride so far it will hopefully serve as a launching point for a strong final two instalments.
It's very smooth and nice to look at, but loading times are quite long and made the wait for constant death quite boring. It seems unable to decide whether it is a parkour game or a third-person shooter, and that hampers what could be a much better game had it decided between the two.
While this would be a strong game on mobile, the lack of storyline or replayability mar an otherwise great game about mass knight suicide.
All in all, The Elder Scrolls Online is a great game, with one of the most successful MMO launches I have come across, despite some of the well-documented teething problems. As it stands, I can only see improvement here and Bethesda Softworks seem dedicated to making that happen.
If this is the start of many new projects from Ubisoft Montreal, no doubt many people are going to be watching with keen eyes, because Child of Light provides a fantastical experience that revitalises turn-based combat for a new audience. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
Despite its vast complexity and many mechanics, Age of Wonders III remains remarkably accessible for a newcomer to the series such as myself. The variety of gameplay, environments, units and leaders means you'll rarely be bored and allows you to play in whichever way you want. If Triumph Studios are also able to provide quality post-release content, Mr. Meier might just have to watch his back.
It sums up Bound by Flame well that although you'll be deciding which end of the moral spectrum to play throughout, you're still presented with the same options by the end of the game. This is a badly planned game that clearly suffered from time, management or technical issues during development and is best avoided.
Some of Full Bore's puzzles will evoke the same dumbfounded look that the Portal games give - and the same kind of satisfaction when you figure them out. Definitely give this one a go if you're a fan of the genre.
Armed with randomly generated levels and the Unreal Engine 4, Daylight is a title that had the potential to even beat horror games like Outlast and Amnesia, but boring and repetitive gameplay, cliché design, miniscule length and general unoriginality let it down massively.
The game is definitely not dull to play and should not be seen as such. It's a massive experience with some really unique puzzles to solve and should keep you on your toes. Ultimately, if you like LEGO games, you like this. If you like The Hobbit, you'll like this. If you like both? Well then you've hit the jackpot my friend.
The thought of where Telltale will head with Episode 4 will fill the mind with excitement, and if it's as good as In Harm's Way, we're probably looking at another helping of shiny videogame trophies come awards season.
