The Games Machine's Reviews

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is a free-to-play CCG: give it a try, chances are you're gonna like it. Despite being a newcomer in an already saturated market, Bethesda plays its cards right (ahr ahr), with some original and fresh gameplay mechanics.

The remastered edition of Parappa the Rapper is like an old tape found in a drawer: despite the (sometimes) cranky sound, it could be an authentic gem, for someone else, it's probably just an old, worthless gimcrack.

8 / 10.0 - Yo-Kai Watch 2
Apr 2, 2017

If you're a fan of the series, this new installment offers a lot of things to be happy about. It's still too easy for seasoned players, but the game offers a lot of new modes, multiplayer, and a bunch of different activities to engage on.

They Shall Not Pass is a rather good DLC, with a lot of content and a bunch of new, well-designed maps (especially the Verdun battle). It doesn't offer anything truly original or unique, and it's not exactly cheap, but if you're a fan of Battlefield 1, we find no reason why you shouldn't be roaming in the new Behemoth, or shooting enemies in the Fort Aux bunker.

9.1 / 10.0 - Thimbleweed Park
Mar 29, 2017

It's basically a paradox, but we need to party like it's 1986 to find a game so beautiful, polished, deep and fun. Everything, in Thimbleweed Park, works like clockwork (better yet, like a pendulum clock in the hall of a creepy mansion), and at the end of the day is one of the finest adventures you'll play this year, and probably one of the best ever made.

9.2 / 10.0 - Persona 5

The last chapter of one of our favourite series improved over the previous chapters in every, possible way. The storyline is unique and much more consistent, and the production values (art direction, soundtrack, dubbing, graphics) are simply top-notch. The fact that the dungeons aren't randomly generated anymore is just the cherry on top.

A roguelike like many other out there, imbued with cuteness but boring and frustrating in most of its moments.

The second (and final) DLC of Dark Souls III proves to be a far more robust and articulated experience than the first one. The level design is tangled yet magnificent, the content is richer and never ordinary. The perfect conclusion to an unforgettable chapter of the Dark Souls series.

The new Deus Ex: Mankind Divided DLC offers a nice, challenging experience for the player, thanks to a rich and complex new mission, a hefty level design (whereas the prison setting fits perfectly) and a lot of choices that favour the stealth gameplay.

We desperately tried to like FlatOut 4, but we simply couldn't. Despite some fun game modes and a decent multiplayer offering, the gameplay is sooo confusing, and bugs abound all around. Well, the steep price doesn't help either.

Table Top Racing: World Tour is not a bad game per se, but it lacks the "spark" we felt playing classics of the genre like Re-Volt or MicroMachines. There's a lot of content to go through, tons of events and championships to win, but at the same time there's lot of repetitiveness, and the AI-controlled cars can be real jerks. The biggest flaw, however, is the lack of a split-screen multiplayer mode.

7.7 / 10.0 - Loot Rascals
Mar 21, 2017

Loot Rascals is a roguelike, as they say, easy to learn but hard to master (despite having only five levels). Trying to escape the "doomed" planet can be really fun, expecially at the beginning. The multiplayer is curious but rather limited, the daily runs offer a moderate challenge, and at the end this is a game you'll probably enjoy once in a while.

5 / 10.0 - Kona
Mar 20, 2017

The debut title from Parabole shows us that a good, well written story and a fascinating setting aren't enough to create a convincing narrative first person adventure. The derivative gameplay is often sloppy and confused, resulting in an experience far from engaging or satisfying. Technically more than modest, it's a game we could not recommend, not even to the fans of the genre.

The first Mass Effect trilogy is probably not a masterpiece, but, like basically everybody else, we become very fond of it, and loved the unique experience if offered. The main problem with Mass Effect Andromeda is that the main flaws of the first trilogy are still here, and that's not only the animations and the graphic quirks. Despite an open world sometimes visually majestic, the game lacks the boldness you need in order to go where no man has gone before.

5.5 / 10.0 - 1-2-Switch
Mar 13, 2017

The real problem with 1-2-Switch is the steep price: 50 bucks is a lot of money for a bunch of cute minigames (half of which are meh). There are some occasions when 1-2-Switch shows the great potential of the new Nintendo console, but it's not enough to justify the buy.

Shards of Darkness could have been an amazing stealth game, thanks to a witty and cynical main character, a wonderful level design and a lot of skills and perks. Unfortunately, the experience is partially ruined by a sub-par AI and some flaws in the control system.

The main concept of Mario Sports Superstars is not a bad one: five intriguing sports (some of them already played in their stand-alone versions), for a title specifically designed for multiplayer. Unfortunately, there's not too much content to go on, and the multiplayer itself could have been handled much, much better.

With its strong artistic direction and the captivating story, Danganronpa 1·2 Reload is a must have for fans of visual novels and detective stories. The only problem - and the only reason why you shouldn't play it - is that it's a collection of games developed for portable consoles: if you own a PS Vita, you'll probably have already in your collection.

The Wii U version of the new Zelda offers the same, amazing, unforgettable experience as the Nintendo Switch version: the game runs pretty smoothly on the old console, and esthetically it's similar. If you're not planning to buy a new Switch, and want to remove the dust from the old Wii U, this is really a no brainer.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands manages to offer some fun (and sometimes great) moments, thanks to the various opportunities given to the player, and the magnificence of the Bolivian landscapes. Needless to say, the game is at its best when played in coop with other three friends. There are some small - but not irrelevant - flaws that somehow ruin the overall experience. It could've been bigger, and better.
