Battlefield V is an absolute joy to play either by yourself or even with buddies. The squad system is more than enough to keep you engaged in the game with the visual spectacle of the battlefield and superb audio in your ears, this game is only going to get better over time. What makes this a good Battlefield is that you can have many hours not only in multiplayer mode but in single play too.
For all you wrestling fans out there I would seriously consider having WWE 2K19 on your Christmas list as it is great for both solo and multiplayer gaming, just what you need in the festive period.
8-Bit Armies developed by Petroglyph and published by Soedesco is a fast paced real-time strategy game that has a strong similarity to the Command & Conquer franchise and is depicted in a voxel manner, i.e the graphics are made up of blocky pixels.
Reversed Interactive bring us the slightly oddly titled Tyler: Model 005, the story of a robot. Not sure if I need to read up on robotics, but rest assured that’s not going to happen. Time to put my I into this AI and go on an adventure.
Oure has been released after a couple of better games in the same format. It fails to live up to the expectations of the first few minutes and becomes a chore very quickly. I can't see the game being as successful as its predecessors which is a shame as it started with so much promise. It is rather like climbing into a Ferrari, sitting in the seats, admiring the experience that you are about to have only to discover it's got the engine from a Fiat Cinquecento in it. Oure lacks the substance to succeed, but if you want a really nice flying dragon simulator I guess you have found your match.
I can only go off what I have played so far, and that has been glorious, yes there are a few controversies surrounding Wolfenstein II, but what game doesn’t seem to have controversy following it. The story line is fun and engaging, especially with the often mutterings of BJ to a dead friend. The audio and graphics all both give great compliment to the game and shooting heads off has never been so much fun! This game is a great addition to the Wolfenstein name and I am sure that the coming DLC will only expand on what is already a great game to play through.
Neither leaping majestically upstream to the Playstation spawning grounds, nor laying lifeless on ice in Morrisons
Assassin’s Creed Origins is a worthy addition to the franchise and in my opinion, is among It’s best. I’d still have to say Assassins Creed 2 is my favourite, but Origins certainly has me excited for where they can go in the future. Ubisoft taking a year out after Syndicate was definitely the right move (I’ll admit I was wrong when I said they didn’t need to as Syndicate was a perfectly good game). I still say that I enjoyed Syndicate but Origins is by far a better game. If you’re a fan of the franchise then this is without a doubt a must. If you’re not a fan of Assassin’s Creed then unfortunately I don’t think this game is enough of a change to bring you on board (but then again if you don’t like Assassin’s Creed why are you reading an AC review?)
Spintires: Mudrunner is very addictive. It won’t appeal to everyone. I have to admit I was curious on this one but I wasn’t excited about it. Now I’ve played it that has changed. There is something about this game that makes you want to play just a little more and see what else you can discover.
I really doubt that this game will be something that people will want to play over and over again. With the wooden acting and poor character models, one play though is plenty for me. Not to mention how many times you need to watch the story to obtain the clues and see all characters. By the end of it you will probably know the story better than the characters in it. Hardened trophy hunters will find a good amount here to work through. (I commend you for how many times you will have to listen to ‘Detective Gustav Gustav’).
I would put Voltron VR Chronicles alongside Batman Arkham VR and Spider-Man Homecoming VR as it’s an experience more than a game. I personally quite enjoyed the story and it’s made me curious to see the remake of the TV Show. At $15 (UK Price TBA) it’s reasonable value for any fans of the series looking to see a new story. But, that’s the only way I would recommend it (Or if you’re looking to obtain a very easy Platinum). It’s definitely enjoyable and has been put together very nicely for VR it just lacks any real gaming content
There is a lot to see and a lot to explore in Solus Project. Gliese-6143-C is a vast open planet you won’t get round quickly. If this is your style of game then you will play this for quite some time and is worth the money.
If you love Trouble in Terrorist Town, you’ll enjoy yourself playing Deceit, but, it has a low population, and you miss out on all of the other activities you can get into with something like Gary’s Mod. Gary’s Mod has nearly 52,000 players in the last 30 days, against only 107 on Deceit. But, like I said, there’s tons more to do in Gary’s Mod. If you’re looking for exclusively Trouble in Terrorist Town, those numbers drop significantly for Gary’s Mod, but I’d suspect nowhere near as low as Deceit.
Whilst the game isn't perfect in any form, it is another step forward and sometimes feels like 2 steps back. If you are a fan of the series then I think there is plenty for you to get your teeth into. FUT returns with the addition of challenges as well as Icons of the game, career mode adds a few additions to give you more of a sense that you are actually in control of your chosen team. There have been a few things taken out, like last years penalty system, thats reverted back to a standard shoot mechanic, and for some reason I can't find the early cross button for the life of me. All in all FIFA 18 is solid, yes it has it's flaws, but then so do Liverpool.
For all die hard WWE fans I can imagine that WWE 2K18 is brilliant, with all your favourite superstars on the roster you could spend a whole year playing as each character, which I'm guessing is 2K Sports idea. With all the game modes available you can find anything for any situation. Got some friends around, then take on a Royal Rumble and see who can last the longest. Alternatively have a Fatal 4-Way Hardcore match and see who can cause the most bodily harm. If you are on your own, then spend some time creating your wrestler and taking them through a career and see how high you can move up the ladder. All in all, WWE 2K18 is a fun game to play, if you aren't aware of the WWE universe then you probably won't enjoy this. However, being a fan of the sport since childhood it was refreshing to play a new iteration of the 2K Sports series.
There is certainly a lot of ways to play both alone and with friends on NHL 18 with jam packed online and offline modes. Although there is not a single player story campaign as seen in the recent Fifa and NBA games, EA is trying to appeal to new players by offering a new training system to enable them to learn the skills to enjoy the game. If you have followed the NHL series of games for a while you maybe a little disappointed in the latest offering as it will feel a little samey however the NHL Threes mode is exciting and different enough to possibly tempt you into a purchase. One thing is for sure, EA need to refresh their NHL franchise for next year if they want to keep their players interested as this years "what's new" is certainly light on the ground.
Vostok Inc has a retro feel to it, so essentially it already feels like it has been around for a long time. The mechanics of the combat can be found in the original Asteroids game, albeit with easier controls. If you like the combat mechanics, then just playing the game as shoot 'em up is great fun. I think this game will still be as enjoyable in years to come, the simplicity of picking it up and playing for a bit and not having to dedicate hours to missions means that it will probably sit in gamer's collections with frequent revisits. I like Vostok Inc a lot and I will be playing it to conclusion. I confess that I don't normally get that into retro games, but Vostok Inc has won me over. Prepare for time to pass at an alarming rate. Nosebleed Interactive have spent their energies in the right areas to make this game top rated for fun.
I like to say i'm a straight talking reviewer. I will censor myself here to save Maize any more embarrassment and give it an award of Thumb Culture Trash Award
Shadow of War is a nice sequel to Shadow of Mordor. But, as with Mordor, some of the plot holes and annoyances are here and it stops this from becoming a great game. For me Monolith have gone out to improve the Nemesis system, which they have done very well with. But, in doing so forgot the most important part of any game. Tell a good story! If you’re a Tolkien fan and have issues with the lore being played around with, you will find yourself as rage filled as some of the orcs you’re going to be fighting. But, if you’re a casual LOTR / fantasy fan, then the story is there for you to enjoy and make the most of.
With so many modes, any fan of the NBA Live franchise will have a great time. Putting hours into the career mode you can get lost while building your team up to be the next Chicago Bulls (Pippen and Jordan era) and along with the amount of time you can spend playing Ultimate Team. NBA Live 18 has something for everyone. So in conclusion a great comeback for the flailing NBA Live series actually brings this game back into the upper echelons of basketball games. Yes the company is still few and far between, but as with FIFA and PES, each game seems to be pushing each other ever closer to perfection. Are we there yet? Not quite, but its certainly getting close.
