An engaging title that will encourage you to think outside the box and look at it from some very obtuse angles. It won't take too long to complete but you won't breeze through it either. No DLC that I have heard about so far but there's enough to keep you occupied. Thought provoking, challenging and above all else entertaining in it's own way.

Unlike the original game, this version now has a quick save function by pressing right on the d-pad. This makes the game a lot more forgiving than the original and the level design has been improved with multiple routes though the levels giving the player choice how to approach each situation. The A.I. is hit and miss, when it's good it's fantastic, but this is spoilt when you see the guards glitching out.

Lego Worlds is super silly fun for anyone who picks it up. It's especially fun for fans of Lego and the TT approach to the Lego games. It's also fun for anyone who happens to like Minecraft-style games.

This game has a ton of potential, perhaps not quite there yet, but there's always room for changes in a future patch. It feels like a remix of several Ubisoft games in one, not a bad thing per-se. A great game though, I've loved my time in the Wildlands.

This will take some time to play through and the options to replay it with different character types as well as gender will have you coming back to it. Try playing through it with a different character class, influence different people and see what happens the next time. This is NOT easy and you will find it's a long journey but with patience and perseverance you will get through it and on the way will be surprised, maybe even shocked a little.

Essential - Horizon Zero Dawn
Mar 15, 2017

Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of those rare games that actually feels like a AAA title. The level of polish and care that has gone into the game echoes throughout. It's an incredible journey worth undertaking, worth every moment you spend with the game.

The presentation of this is superb. The screenshots do not do this justice and as for the sound.. Listen to this through a home cinema system and it's going to be atmospheric. For the true experience play it through head phones and don't blame me if the slightest knock, scratch etc. has you jumping like a jack rabbit. This is one slickly executed game. Visually impressive yet visceral, atmospheric and genuinely scary. This is the Resident Evil we have been waiting for for such a long time.

Unexplored harnesses quite a bit of random generation and really makes it work for it. The dungeons are fresh and new every time, the puzzles shift and keep you on your toes. It's also worth a mention that aside from the main game, you have the option to play weekly and daily dungeons, which if you're a daily monster like I am, is incredibly fun to have at hand. It keeps it new and addicting, something that I think is a must with this type of game.

Aesthetics-wise, Breath of the Wild doesn't exactly feature eye-popping graphics like games on PC and PS4. Which isn't really surprising, considering Nintendo has never been one to go after shiny graphics, prioritising innovation and user experience instead. Nevertheless, Breath of the Wild is a thing of beauty, featuring an anime-like art style that blows every other Zelda game out of the water. Everything is incredibly detailed and immersive in the game.

When I first sat down to play my copy of Small Radios, Big Televisions, my faith was already in the Adult Swim brand. Coming a long way since the day of flash games, this network-born publisher cradles creativity. When you play an Adult Swim game, it very much feels like someone gave the reins over and said "Hey, great idea my indie friend. Let's take it and run with it." Rarely am I ever disappointed by anything coming out with the AS name attached.

The atmosphere in this game is dialled up from the previous, the graphics and design are better and the music has a neat way of tracking the peril you're in. It changes based on the on screen action and provides subtle (or not so subtle) clues to the situation. The same can be said of the sound effects, though they sound mostly recycled from the first game.

No Recommendation / Blank - Tennis in the Face
Feb 26, 2017

It's cartoony graphics and jaunty soundtrack help sell the tale, and as unlikely as it is, it can draw you in. The developers 10 Tons seem able to come up with whacky ideas and to some extent make them work well indeed. Like King Oddball this started life as a 'finger flicker' game on mobile devices, and as a port to consoles works OK enough. I would guess though that on mobile devices there is a way to adjust not only attack angles but the power put behind each shot. If there is a way to adjust shot power I could not find it.

Bright, colourful graphics and some very nicely rendered explosions, impacts with water etc. However level design does not vary very much and perhaps some extra special weapons could have been added to mix it up a little but this is a minor gripe. The music and sound are pretty darned good. If you are looking for a serious flight sim then look elsewhere amigo, but if you want a fast, furious and above all else, FUN arcade shooter than this is it. If anyone has played Reso Gun on the PS4 and have wondered when and if the X Box One is going to get a game that's as much fun and a big a blast as that. then this comes pretty damned close.

Stardew Valley is a brilliant game, fun, engaging and packed with things to see and do. The gameplay loop is satisfying and one hour and easily turn into six when you play it.

It reminds me of Alien Isolation especially when you recall the heroine of that titles explorations of the abandoned space terminal. But at least you are not in danger of being hunted down and eaten by some huge, acid blooded, xenomorph! The lack of action may put some off, but if you like a good puzzle solving game, with some platform style jumping to do then this is it.

It's still a fantastic game, even though it is showing signs of ageing, it is a classic and people will probably still be talking about it years later.
