There’s certainly fun to be had with a mate/partner/postman in Biped, but there’s very little here to have you playing for any more than a weekend. Once the levels are complete there’s the odd unlock that doesn’t justify prioritising Biped over the likes of Jackbox or Overcooked. If you’re on your own you’ll find little joy in ploughing your way through the adjusted solo campaign, which is more infuriating than infatuating.
Null Drifter is a simple, fun, but ultimately shallow shooter, which is fine if you want a quick blast.
This is a simple game with a simple mission with only the bare minimum of content to keep you playing. Usually, even the simplest games are at least polished in one particular way or another with either beautiful graphics, or some interesting gameplay gimmick to keep you coming back. Galactic Warfighter has no unique selling point. It is as generic as its name suggests.
This bus journey offers little thrills and a whole lot of frustration. Much like a normal bus journey then, I suppose.
It’s not quite perfect, but its closer than any JRPG has come in the last decade or more and breathes new life into a lagging genre. If you like RPGs, anime, engrossing narratives, or just a second life to live, and you are anything like me and have lamented the dearth of real quality JRPGs in the last decade, you owe it to yourself not to miss this.

As a continuation of what Capcom achieved last year, it’s disappointing. I won’t be crass and snidely call it “Resident Evil 2.5”, because it is its own game. It’s just that the content outside of the campaign is so lacking that as much as I hate to, I can only compare it to The Order 1886. In terms of comparison, it’s a spectacle game that has you follow a predetermined path. The omission of the multiple choice/live selection system forces you to take the path laid out for you, often whizzing by as an almost cutscene-like delivery of gameplay.
HyperParasite is an enjoyable twin-stick shooter with loads of character, sorry, characters. It’s humorous and fun. But it’s also painfully unforgiving.
The narrative is by far the most engaging and wonderful I’ve had the pleasure to experience this year so far.
An all star cast and a lighthearted, almost comedic tone aren’t enough to save Real Heroes: Firefighters from mediocrity on PS4. The fire visual really underline the age of the original game, as does the AI. Among environments that have been spruced up for 2020, it’s quite jarring.
The Complex offers a fun and engaging personalised movie experience, and demands the attention and immersion of the player in its decision-making interactive elements. Its budget is small, so set your expectations accordingly, but if you’re in withdrawal after Bandersnatch and need another hit of choose-your-own-adventure, you can’t go too wrong with this, while we wait for the film and games industries to catch up.
When Totally Reliable Delivery Service is working as it’s supposed too, it’s a hoot. It’s a visually simplistic but colourful game with chilled out backing music and a really simplistic gameplay loop that even a 3-year-old can understand.
Gigantosaurus is a game that gives children what they want - a game that's got as much complexity and depth as those that the adults get, that's polished and not a buggy mess and doesn't just tear up the source material. It contains all the classic 3D platforming tropes and manages to cater to players of all skill levels while it does so.
Polished to the nth degree, visually sublime and with a soundtrack that’ll get your heart racing, it’s a thrilling game from bloody beginning to gory end.
Saints Row IV still offers exactly what it ever has, because there’s nothing new to see. If you desperately need it wherever you go, then go nuts. You aren’t going to be disappointed. If you’ve never played a Saints Row IV, you’ll find vastly superior versions on other systems.
Pathologic 2 is an experience, I’ll give it that. But not one I wish to spend any further time in. It’s just far too dull and painful. The most telling thing of all? I fell asleep playing. Pathologic 2 is out now for most systems, and just this month on PS4. If you are absolutely desperate for some contagion related entertainment, you can do a lot better than this.
It won’t revolutionise either the horror or walking simulator genre, but it’s a strong entry nonetheless.
There’s a cool art style here, with a pumping soundtrack that’ll have you tapping your foot until you get bored of everything else this game lacks. It’s that lack of content that hampers Super Destronaut: Land Wars in the long run, with all manner of goals unconvincingly re-badged as more than just “shoot things” which just won’t keep you entertained for long.
Bikers and those who know the heritage of the Isle of Man TT will get a real kick out of this game. It goes out of its way to put this seminal race on the pedestal it deserves and backs all of that up by building a mightily impressive racing game around it. It’s not perfect – I’d have liked to see some other models like sidecar races included – but what is here is very, very impressive indeed.
Ori 2 is a triumph of the Metroidvania genre and takes its place alongside Hollow Knight as the absolute pinnacle available on any system.
