Pure Nintendo's Reviews

Dec 7, 2018

A trio of classic board games packed together into a single Nintendo Switch Game Card, Hasbro Game Night tries to offer a good bang for the buck. It almost succeeds, too. Only one dud prevents me from declaring this a great package, though I still feel it’s a good one.

7 / 10.0 - Mega Man 11
Dec 6, 2018

The initial thrill is sizable, but once it tapers off, Mega Man 11 reveals itself to just be a good game, not a great one. There's no shame in that; I'm just grateful the blue bomber is back. I'd hoped for something that better balanced the old-school with innovation after all this time, but that isn't something the series has generally been known for. The familiarity is comforting in many ways, so for those with nostalgic interest, I recommend the physical amiibo edition with some cool extras.

My son and I had some fun playing through, and you can bet the next time I get together with my college friends we'll be firing it up for some quick laughs. But if you haven't played Heavy Barrel before it's best to just avoid it and stick with a game that's woven a little more intricately into your past.

8 / 10.0 - CricktoGame
Dec 6, 2018

CricktoGame is a refreshing puzzle game with simple mechanics, relaxing music, and difficult puzzles, but not challenging enough to rage quit.

The ambient music and the beautiful visuals of this easy to understand puzzle game make it a solid selection for two player co-op, or playing solo if you a fan of sensual problem solving.

8.5 / 10.0 - Forgotton Anne
Dec 4, 2018

Forgotten Anne is an anime brought to life, where you play the role of the heroine through a Studio Ghibli-esque world full of mystery and wonder. The puzzles will scratch that itch in your brain, but the visuals and soundtrack will blow your mind.

7.5 / 10.0 - Swap This!
Dec 3, 2018

If you're looking for a fun puzzle game that can conveniently be played with a touch screen only, no Joy-Con needed, Swap This! will provide at least a good couple of hours of fun.

While its many positive themes are definitely commendable, the lack of challenge, level diversity, and options do no favors. The game also has no ending, and thus feels unfinished. It's an okay game for youngsters, but there's no innovation here. The quality doesn't match the price, so I'd wait for a reduction.

Starlink certainly holds up in terms of gameplay and adventure. Another strong suit is the fact you don't actually have to buy any of the actual accessories since they can all be bought through the shop including the game itself, kind of like DLC. Whether or not you are a Star Fox fan, you should definitely give this game a go.

7 / 10.0 - Syberia 3
Nov 30, 2018

Bottom-line, if you enjoyed the prior Syberia games, you'll enjoy part 3 as well. It offers some fun surprises, and I feel it'll also prove to have some endurance and stick with me. Plot strengths can't override the key technical issues though, so do wait for a needed patch and a sale if you're on the fence.

In the end, Siegecraft Commander seems to fall flat in terms of fun and entertainment. There are a lot of challenge associated with the game. It's not necessarily always a bad thing but in this case, it just did not work. Fans of real-time strategy games or any other game probably should look elsewhere for a fun and rewarding experience.

5.5 / 10.0 - Crayola Scoot
Nov 28, 2018

There are so many ways the game could have been more memorable, but it just isn't. Overall, I just found Crayola Scoot to be a missed opportunity for originality, fairly quick to beat, and disappointing. I wouldn't say it is worth its current price of $39.99.

GRIP Combat Racing was as much a battle between myself and the game as it was between my car and rival racers, which is a shame because when it works, it works splendidly. It's fortunate that at least the game's issues could all be resolved with further patches, potentially leaving us with an excellent racer on the Nintendo Switch, but as it stands now, the game is flawed and is hard to justify at full price.

I really wanted to like Soulblight, but sadly I don't think this is a game I will be coming back to.

The Legend of Evil is a charming strategy game. The gameplay is tricky with 20 unique tower defense levels with an extra mode. This one is worth a try.

7 / 10.0 - Aqua TV
Nov 19, 2018

Aqua TV is a relaxing simulation that looks beautiful on the Nintendo Switch. It's fun to watch and set up various aquariums, though there are limitations to each one and it's quick to explore the game in its entirety.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix might be different from the DS version of the game, but it's still a great package. It's got a unique, customizable combat system, a modern story filled with intrigue and heart, as well as a fantastic soundtrack

9 / 10.0 - Pinstripe
Nov 16, 2018

Pinstripe is a great puzzle\platformer with beautiful graphics, an awesome story and memorable characters. While I do wish the game was a little longer, it's hard to complain when it was made by one person over the course of 5 years. I highly recommend checking it out!

7 / 10.0 - Luigi's Mansion
Nov 16, 2018

With so many unique ideas, it's amazing how much Nintendo got right with this imaginative new franchise when it debuted back in 2001. While the controls aren't the best on the 3DS (a proper second analog stick would do quite nicely), the game still holds plenty of charm.

6.5 / 10.0 - Joggernauts
Nov 16, 2018

I wish I had good things to report from my time with Joggernauts, but it was more sour than sweet. While it may hold some fun for the first few levels, the appeal quickly wears off. If you are in the mood for a unique, challenging runner with co-op play, Joggernauts may provide some fun for you. However, you might want to wait for a sale.
