Pure Nintendo's Reviews

7 / 10.0 - Exorder
Nov 15, 2018

Exorder is a good turn-based strategy game. The characters have unique skill sets and there's a lot to do during each mission. If you enjoy this genre, this wouldn't be a bad game to try.

9 / 10.0 - Moonlighter
Nov 15, 2018

Who would have thought that the classic action-RPG would be revitalized by the typically boring prospect of running a small business? Diving into procedurally generated dungeons and slaying beasts with every manner of weapon answers the question, “What would a 2D version of Breath of the Wild look and play like?” Well, sort of like Moonlighter.

Hyper Light Drifter is simply a must-play title. The Nintendo Switch version features a few exclusive features so in my mind, it's the ‘definitive version' at this point. While I initially had some frame-rate issues (some in single-player mode, while most were in the co-op mode), the 1.2.0 patch on the Nintendo Switch helped out tremendously. I didn't recall any issues after the patch. If you're looking for a great Zelda-like game with amazing atmosphere and music, you owe it to yourself to check out Hyper Light Drifter.

While undeniably gorgeous, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption has a certain appeal to a specific kind of gamer due to its combination of simplicity and brutality, but others will find it lacking for those exact same traits.

6 / 10.0 - SkyScrappers
Nov 13, 2018

SkyScrappers is a neat idea that just needs fleshing out. It's a fun game at its core, and with more characters, levels and modes, it could be something great.

3 / 10.0 - Pilot Sports
Nov 13, 2018

Pilot Sports has pretty, vivid graphics with catchy, exotic music. However, the challenges become monotonous and the controls are too sensitive.

Ninjin: Clash of Carrots is a kooky ride through feudal Japan in search of carrots. It's fast, it's fun, and it's great with two players. Give it a go if you're looking for some cartoon-y action with a friend.

Although I feel this is the best Mosou game currently available for the Switch, there's not enough here to bring over any converts, especially those who played Fire Emblem Warriors or Hyrule Warriors specifically for the franchise tie-ins. And although I don't prefer all of the changes from the previous Warriors Orochi game, they've made just enough to make things fresh for fans of the series and keep them entertained throughout the game's robust campaign.

Steven Universe: Save the Light has a fairly standard RPG format, infused with all the music, light and love that has garnered the franchise such a huge cult following.

9 / 10.0 - Retimed
Nov 9, 2018

Retimed is a unique slow-motion shooting game with vibrant characters and fun arenas. Despite having no single-player mode, this game is great with friends and allows hours of fun.

5.5 / 10.0 - Car Quest
Nov 9, 2018

Car Quest starts running out of gas through its failure to recall where you're going next. New areas are unlocked one at a time, often as small openings revealed via speedy cutscenes. These are very easy to forget, especially if you put the game down for a bit. So, I found myself searching through overly familiar looking sections hoping to stumble upon my next path. This became worse after the first few hours, as the world continued to grow.

OK K.O.! Let's Play Heroes is a title that is full of tiresome fetch quests and padding. Yet, this game shines when combat, or the talented cast of voice actors are put center stage, which isn't often enough to save it from the repetitive qualities you are forced to handle.

A pretty good release for the bookworm crowd, A Case of Distrust will keep you entertained, even if it's only for a few hours.

Elegant in its simplicity, Reigns: Kings and Queens offers you all the different flavours that power comes in and is brutally easy to get lost in.

The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a great collection of not necessarily great games. While retro enthusiasts and multiplayer fans will likely have this anthology near the top of their wish list, others might want to wait for some DLC to flesh it out.

Monster Loves you is entertaining enough for the first couple of plays, but it definitely doesn't last. This short title fails to leave much of an impression, unfortunately.

Still, this is an excellent collection of games that should appeal to just about everyone at the party. Whether you've got quiz-whizzes, skill-based arcade gamers, those who love to be creative or those who love to get into ethical debates, there's a game here. A good game here. It's a great place to start if you've never purchased another Jackbox Party Pack, and the new games are enough to make this an attractive purchase for longtime fans.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a great metroidvania, that takes tropes from the genre and turns them into a joke. Humor aside, this is a fun title with a colorful world and interesting combat.

The Nintendo Switch has several strong point-and-click games, it's true. But while some have tried to re-design the genre, Broken Sword 5 reminds how it helped cement the best of it in the first place. The series has a timeless quality, and part 5 simultaneously offers a celebration of the past and encouragement of heading in the right direction for the future. It hits the ground running to get you hooked, and its weaknesses end up not hurting the overall package, which took me just under15 hours, as much as you might've thought. Throw in some Switch exclusive behind the scenes movies (better late than never for this port) and you have even more of a winner.

7 / 10.0 - Gal Metal

Gal Metal is absurd and adorable in equal measure. There is no doubt it will find an incredibly passionate niche out there somewhere, but there's still plenty to entertain anyone with rhythm.
