Overall, the Horizon: Zero Dawn Remaster is the kind of bonus that didn't really need to be there. Visually, the title has been brought into the present day, but not everything has been improved. It's a shame, perhaps, that gameplay elements or expanded content aren't also improved to give original players more incentive to upgrade.

An artfully crafted project that has a head, a heel and even a background that makes you turn your back. But otherwise it's an empty vessel that doesn't tell stories where it could.

The ravages of time are already showing on Sonic Generations, and while visually it's a very good improvement, some of the content changes are unnecessary and the gameplay hasn't aged well. Shadows Generations, by comparison, at least offers something fresh, albeit shorter. But it does manage to entertain, and you can enjoy those few hours with the game. Overall, this remaster isn't bad at all, but it also shows that Sonic has a problem these days and doesn't quite know how to deal with it.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure does a lot of things well. When it comes to Max and her emotional and personal journey from trauma to self-discovery, it works. The main character entertains you, tugs at your heartstrings, and you're happy to be on this journey with her. But when it comes to the twists and turns of the story and the internal logic of the plot of the new game, that's where it starts to creak.

This cult western has long been absent from the PC, although its sequel was released a few years ago. Rockstar has finally released it on this platform, but with outdated graphics and a high price tag.

It takes a while, but when The Brothership is in full swing, it is an excellent action RPG after all these years: exploration, arcade elements, tactical strategy and the mix of gameplay is top-notch. We are so glad that the Switch has its entry in the series.

7 / 10.0 - Slitterhead
Nov 4, 2024

Slitterhead relies on the mechanic of possessing and controlling human bodies, which is not new, but is used to great effect in the game. Once you get past the clunky start and get into it, Slitterhead manages to deliver an impressive experience. Although it would be more spectacular if more things were clearer and better handled.

The continuation of the successful action game in retro style exceeded expectations and brings a great dose of adrenaline.

Sometimes less is more, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed is a great example of this. It would have benefited from being shorter and stripped of the redundant and repetitive content that even crosses the line into annoying. The pacing would be better, the content wouldn't feel so schematic, and the game would be more enjoyable.

7 / 10.0 - Wild Bastards

Cosmic western with collecting bandits brings an interesting combination of action with strategic progress. At first it is remarkable, but gradually the interest in the game declines. Without a proper story, it becomes too long and monotonous.

Overall, we got a surprisingly good Call of Duty this year, and it's exactly what the series needed after the last very weak Modern Warfare III installment. It offers a very impressive campaign with some unique missions, but also a nice return of the zombies back to the basics of attacking in waves, and the massive multiplayer part has been brought to life nicely by omnimovement.

6.5 / 10.0 - Pneumata
Oct 28, 2024

Those who were looking forward to a bloodier and more classic Resident Evil from an independent studio will either be disappointed or not enjoy the game the way the creators of Pneumata intended.

The latest chapter in the Dragon Age saga successfully combines the best of semi-open-world gameplay with a balanced and engaging combat system. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard falls short of previous installments in areas like side quests, story choices, and dialogue depth, it excels in combat quality, world design, and audiovisual presentation, delivering some of the most epic battles in the series. This game is a roller-coaster experience; at its peak, it entertained and amazed me, yet at times, its lack of depth dampened my enthusiasm.

8.5 / 10.0 - Black Myth: Wukong
Oct 25, 2024

A spectacle like Black Myth: Wukong happens once per videogame generation. This epic anthropomorphic adventure of the Monkey King is a true labour of love, that presents grand story, wonderfully authentic soundtrack, addictively punchy combat and does the whole videogame process a bit differently. It is full of surprises, excruciatingly hard bosses and it just simply looks amazing. Few downsides and tiny imperfections can't really ruin this almost perfect experience, that makes you want to stay for just one more try!

7 / 10.0 - EA Sports WRC

The new DLC is definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the original game. It brings new ways to have fun on unpaved surfaces in powerful contemporary and historic machines. The game has certainly improved technically in the year since its release. The strong audio, good driving feel and FFB (when playing on a steering wheel) are definitely worth mentioning. Unfortunately, the visuals are getting weaker and the very poorly designed menus slow things down unnecessarily and detract from the overall experience.

Overall, The Lake House is a nice expansion, it doesn't offer much of a story of its own, but it's rich with connections and hints of where Control 2 will go. Ultimately, getting players ready for Control 2 is also the goal of the expansion. Don't expect much else from it.

This game proves that platform jumping doesn't have to look like it's from gaming prehistory, and it's not the prerogative of game heroes, hedgehogs, and bearded plumbers. The struggle for survival in the shadow of angry titans is impressive.

Nikoderiko does things you already know from other games. Only it does them in a worse way. You want a game like that? Play Crash. Play Donkey Kong Country. Play the new Astro Bot, even though it's a different kind of platform game. All of these games are much better and won't frustrate you with stupid bugs or even glitches. If anything stands out here, it's the graphics and the local co-op.

7 / 10.0 - Star Trucker

You can spend tens of hours in cold space, but you have to be in the mood and have the time. The game is currently brought to its knees by shallowness and game elements that are not perfected.

I can't say that I didn't enjoy Unknown 9: Awakening. I liked some aspects of it, Haroona is a likeable character and the world manages to intrigue me. But mechanically and technologically, it's a game lost in time. It's as if someone suddenly discovered it in a drawer where it had been lying around since 2007. These days, action-adventure games like this are made better, funnier and more variable.
