Lost Judgment is an exceptionally dark adventure that takes on sensitive topics teeming with outstanding action that shouldn't be overlooked.
Happy's Humble Burger Farm is an indie horror gem with all the unnerving aspects fans love from these projects.
Evil Genius 2: World Domination is, just like over-the-top spy films, a product of its time and feels very much dated.
Sherlock Holmes Chapter One has promise and definitely can serve as an edifice for a grand detective franchise but definitely needs some refinement.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is inferior to the original games and represents these phenomenal titles in the worse way possible.
Bright Memory: Infinite is a terrific shooter that delivers that high-octane sense of speed and precision fans of arena shooters love.
Prison Simulator is a great representation of working in a prison and seeing the life of an inmate. There are lots of possible schedules, events, and freedom to interact with NPCs. But most of them will eventually become an ordinary routine.
Call of Duty: Vanguard shows that this once great franchise is now a shell of its former self. But at least it doesn't crash consoles.
For those seeking a new horror franchise to dive into Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will give that uneasy feeling of danger fans crave from horror titles.
If you are a fan of first-person shooters you're doing yourself a disservice not to play DUSK.
Midnight Protocol nicely recreates the experience of hacking.
House of Ashes is a gripping dark monster-filled adventure that you'll want to play over and over again.
Back 4 Blood isn't a repeat of Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve but doesn't live up to the expectations many were hoping for.
Metroid Dread brings Samus out of retirement with a bang and shows why this franchise is one of the most beloved series in video game history.
Demon Slayer is one of the most popular manga and animes today and with such a massive audience a video game was going to follow. Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is a retelling of the first season with little variation. The fun combat system is easy to learn but complicated to master with arena-style battles with iconic characters from the first season but outside of that, the game offers the most bare-bones retelling of the anime along with minor exploration and little replayability. Even the fun combat begins to wane due to a poor progression system. Unless you're the most hardcore Demon Slayer fan this title is a prime example of why anime games are not taken seriously.
A timeless classic is hard to develop especially with advancing technology as advancements can lead to certain gameplay systems and visuals becoming dated. Titles like Super Mario Bros., Super Metroid, F-Zero, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Final Fantasy are a few examples of the most notorious classics that can still stand against modern titles but there are many more lesser-known games. Gleylancer is an example of a timeless classic that has aged well and still provides a stellar and challenging shoot 'em up experience but not many have heard of it. Now modern audiences can relive this classic with some new features or take on the challenge of completing it without any of the conveniences.
"Ubisoft Game", when you hear that you can predict what you're going to get. An open-world experience with lots of monotonous optional objectives. Far Cry 6 is exactly that, a large open map with lots of similar optional objectives as you attempt to take back Yara for the people and dethrone dictator Anton Castillo. It does more of what past Far Cry games since the soft reboot of the franchise with Far Cry 3, this time with a new location and characters. The strong performances, impressive visuals, and incredible cutscenes are Far Cry 6's saving grace but the gameplay is a repetitive grind that a "Ubisoft Game" is known for.
Anime games tend to focus on the fans of the source material and because of that, the games are usually of mediocre quality. They deliver a solid experience but never try to go beyond what is expected. Scarlet Nexus does more than what is expected of it and delivers something amazing. An extraordinary experience with a varied and tactical combat system with some bland side missions to extend the adventure. Scarlet Nexus is one of Bandai Namco's best games and if you're a fan of anime this is something you don't want to miss out on.
The Plane Effect is an art exhibit malformed into a game that could have been a beautiful and provoking experience to passively watch.
Psychonauts 2 has been a long time coming and was well worth the wait. An outstanding action platformer that captures the magic of the original while improving on many of its core features. Double Fine has done an outstanding job of remaining true to the original while modernizing certain aspects to better complement changing tastes. Psychonauts 2 is simply brilliant and one of the best games of 2021.
