Circuit Dude is worth all the praise it has received. I’ve found myself a little more housebound than I’d hoped these past couple months, so instead of listening to podcasts while walking or driving, I listen and play Circuit Dude. I have enjoyed all my time spent helping him work on his invention, and I intend to spend many more hours doing the same!
Lunch a Palooza has all the ingredients for a fun party game but the order we are given ends up being more of a food related disaster. Awkward controls, confusing gameplay and a level that causes motion sickness. This is a lunch that needs a lot more time in the oven before it’s ready for consumption.
Maze tries to be an atmospheric and relaxing experience, but what little atmosphere it may have been able to achieve is marred by its plethora of design flaws and bare-bones gameplay. Many of the details found within served to actively detract from my enjoyment of this title. I can’t in good conscience recommend it to even the most casual of switch owners, especially not at its seven dollar price-point.
A physics based puzzler isn’t my idea of a good time and yet Jobski’s hard working charms won me over. I think this is a great game for couples or someone with a slightly older kid so you can spend a quick gaming session together. While it might only take a couple of hours to beat there’s plenty more to come back to.
Tropico 6 is welcome edition to the strategy genre on the Nintendo Switch. It offers many hours of solid deep strategy and simulation. Being a huge fan of Civilization, I for one am happy to see Tropico 6 being released on the Switch. If you’re like me and appreciate a good strategy game, that you can get lost in for hours which offers a good challenge, this could be the game for you!
Oceanhorn 2 is an ambitious step up from the first game in the series. While many will compare the game to Nintendo’s hallmark series. Oceanhorn 2 bravely throws it’s hat into the ring to enter the fray. While there are rough edges to its combat it was the small little things about this game that overall kept me engaged. Exploration is fun and the world is beautiful, it’s a title filled with many surprises. A delightful adventure that I hope gamers will enjoy as much as I did.
Love romantic stories? This is one with a twist. Not into overly romantic? This visual novel brings an interesting story to the table, so it may still be one to go for. Can you tell I’m loving this game? Aksys have a tendency of bringing us the best visual novels, and Café Enchanté is no exception.
This is my very first time playing a visual novel, I never expected to be so engrossed in the game. And to be completely honest, I never expected to get so addicted, which makes Piofiore an amazing game to me. Piofiore: Fated Memories has a good balance of action and romance, which keeps you on your toes. The quality in graphics and enthralling storytelling have probably spoiled me for future visual novels, but we will see!
All in all, it’s a story of two people coming together, getting to know each other, and then supporting and accepting one another unconditionally. Now, I don’t know about you, but that’s all I’ve ever wished for out of a loving relationship. If you are a reader, you’re going to want to pick this one up. It’s not that expensive, and if it’s ever on sale then consider yourself getting a very good deal.
Clea is an eerie stealth based game that will certainly appeal to horror fans and gamers that want the horror setting but without those jump scares. The use of sound is top notch, this is definitely one to plug the headphones in for handheld mode. The game is short and to the point if your looking for a quick horror fix for Halloween or any other time of the year.
For gamers returning to the Oddworld series, you will find all the things you know and remember fondly from previous games still intact. For those new players to the series the Nintendo Switch is as good a console as any to try out Oddworld on. Plus you have the added portability that the Switch brings with it. I’ve had a enjoyable and entertaining time revisiting Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty and being reunited with my old friend Abe. It has certainly given me something to chuckle over while playing through the game again, and a good chuckle is something we all need at the moment or at any time!
Pikmin™ 3 Deluxe is just as great as it was when it was first released on the WiiU. Released at the perfect time to entice a new generation of budding gamers into the wonderful world of the tiny Pikmin. I can imagine lots of very happy families playing Pikmin together this year at Christmas, it will make a fantastic family game to play. In fact, Pikmin is a fantastic game for anyone to play and enjoy immensely.
Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia is a game that I enjoyed a good bit. There are definitely some things that can be improved like the sidequests that involve item collecting, getting a counter or a way to track how many you need to get and that some of the side quests feel repetitive. But on the other hand, I do enjoy the Old School RPG exploration. The Battle system is fun to play around with and I also appreciate the fanservice on display, especially for someone like me who enjoyed the original series of Bakugan a lot by bringing back Leonidas.
Toolboy looks great graphically the mechanical world is interesting. But when it comes to playing, I spent more time being frustrated with the clunky controls. In its current state I can’t recommend Toolboy but maybe with some polish it could be quite the robotic gem. For now though approach with caution.
Aokana took me over twenty hours to complete. It seems that Misaki has the longest route while the others are much shorter in comparison. Though I wish there were more meaningful dialogue options, presentation wise Aokana shows just what you can do with a visual novel. The story is a nice change of pace with a good blend of sporting action, comedy and romance. It’s also made me really really wish I could fly.
Inside Grass: A little Adventure isn’t going to win any awards for its gameplay nor its visual presentation. However, there is a child out there somewhere who would be more than happy to spend some gaming time with Inside Grass: A little Adventure and enjoy their time with it. While I did enjoy the game it certainly wasn’t a challenge for me to play. So, if you’re looking something inexpensive to amuse your children for an hour or two maybe Inside Grass: A little Adventure could be that game.
Pumpkin Jack is not just a good platformer for Halloween, its a treat for any day of the year. If you miss the platformers of old or just fancy a platformer that doesn’t star a blue plumber for a change, Pumpkin Jack is well worth your time.
It is obvious from playing Röki that developers Polygon Treehouse want you to enjoy the puzzles and adventuring gameplay. However, it’s done in such a way as not to distract you from the story. A story is full of Scandinavian folklore intertwined with a tale of a broken family being held together by Tove’s determination, courage and spirit. All of which transforms the experience into something lasting and memorable for the player.
While I have the odd niggle with Charterstone: Digital Edition the core gameplay loop is enjoyable for the most part. As the developers are releasing updates to the game, I hope they sort out the way the tutorial is presented to the player and of course fix the non intuitive controls. I can see Charterstone: Digital Edition would be an entertaining game to play with a few friends.
The Last Days was a huge disappointment. A sorely lacklustre story, complete lack of characters, sadly limited variation of puzzles, and utterly average graphics and sound resulted in a very neutral experience. It also only lasted an hour, and while I normally hate to make this statement, I have to call the price too high considering the length and enjoyability. I’m a huge fan of the point-and-click puzzle genre, but The Last Days was just an unfortunate waste of time as far as I’m concerned.
