Liked-a-lot - Space Grunts
Oct 22, 2020

I ended up liking Space Grunts more than I expected. I wasn’t too sure how I initially felt about the turn-based design but it ended up working really well here. New to the genre? This might be a great entry point to start. A fun, fast rogue-like game that is well worth playing on and off whether you have hours to spare or mere minutes. Plus, it might make you chuckle at times, which is always nice. Great work!

Oct 21, 2020

All of the crab fighters you can unlock are cute, and each feels unique and different. The weapons you can wield range from katana to chair, and it is a blast smashing your opponents with each one. You can play solo, couch co-op, or online. There are so many different arenas and battle modes, and once you find your crab-soulmate, you can level the bejeezus out of them to create your own ultimate crab fighter. Consider this one for your library if you’re a fan of fighting games, silliness, and/or crustaceans!

Liked-a-lot - ScourgeBringer
Oct 21, 2020

Scourgebringer is a challenging rogue lite with fun gameplay. The mix of sword play and air dashing makes for an entertaining mix of gameplay to be enjoyed by rogue lite fans. If you’ve ever been scared away by the difficulty of these games the accessibility options available here may just help you get started. A nice treat for Switch that I can easily see myself revisiting again and again until a giant monolith descends from the heavens and starts the apocalypse… Wait what?

Reflection of Mine is something for the puzzle fan looking for an intense challenge. This is an experience that requires careful thought and patience to conquer its tricky puzzles. I loved the soundtrack but I mostly walked away from this game feeling more stupid than entertained which is more on me than the game. Some will love this, some will hate it so I’ll be a pain and just say……

This is a little on the short side, taking me five hours to beat (more or less depending on your need to collect everything or desire to look up information). I find it’s priced reasonably and there is a post game magic mode. Enabling you to use more magic at the expense of half your defense. Which of course requires you to wear a very interesting outfit. If you like achieving things you do get the extra end screens based on your time and how many secret items you’ve found. Outside of some slippery monkey business, a difficult to read map and some annoying layers to jump through, this is a pretty good game.

As a result, it’s a nice progression, smooth and yet fulfilling. Each room seems to have switches you need to activate before you can go through the doors. As you’d expect, the tricky bit can be getting to the switches! Once again, The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild have put their all in, and it’s been well worth it to play at least! It’s for gamers who aren’t afraid of the dark and like a good puzzle of all skill levels, so if you’re intrigued, give it a go!

I’m sure like myself you have either see a TV adaptation of the Agatha Christie-ABC Murders or one of the many film adaptation of the novel. Or you could have read the novel like I have. While the game does not follow the novel to the letter, it does follow the events closely, to the point where those familiar with the source material will not find many surprises here. Agatha Christie-ABC Murders makes for lighthearted detective fare, where you can give your little grey cells a bit of a workout!

Liked-a-lot - Alwa's Legacy
Oct 18, 2020

Alwa’s Legacy is a lovely little metroidvania game well worth sinking time into. The developers clearly took lots of time crafting this world, making the enemy encounters and puzzles count. They made a game that feels wholesome and Zoe is a memorable character. Colourful, charming and a delight to play this is not a gem to let slip away whether your old or young.

ZOIDS Wild: Blast Unleashed is a fun arena brawler to pick up and play for fans of the series and youngsters who can catch the english dub of the anime on Netflix (if it’s available in your region) alike. The lack of an online mode is rather baffling to me but I cannot deny that there is a good bit of fun and entertainment to be had here and I had a fun time playing the game.

Ghost of a Tale has charming characters, lore, and brilliant storytelling. All together they provide an immersive world for the player to get lost in. While it does have a few little hiccups with the graphics, it is not enough to spoil the gameplay. Ghost of a Tale is a lovely game with a meaningful story. With a great cast of characters, a game all enthusiasts of adventure, role-playing genres should try. I challenge you to not fall in love with Tilo. It is a challenge I would say is impossible as Tilo is so cute!!

Liked - Falcon Age
Oct 17, 2020

I have to admit, whilst some of the combat would leave me stumped and a little frustrated, there is plenty of humour laced throughout Falcon Age. And the adorable moments with your feathered friend are brilliant. Bonding has never been more wholesome I managed to complete the game in around 15 hours. I got stuck a few times, went the wrong way more often than I like to admit. It is a cute game to play, and if it’s looking good already, wait until you play Falcon Age.

It’s a pity the game is let down by the translation. It feels like they didn’t pay enough attention to that, giving it a good translation would make the game much more enjoyable. Which brings me to my conclusion: I’m a bit torn. If you like fashion and you are into the anime style, then I’d say this is a good game. Not a great one, for that it needs more spit and polish. If you want your fashion game more along the lines of Style Boutique, then maybe this isn’t the one for you. Still, SELFY COLLECTION is very much about making combinations with the 5,000 items you can collect and about making your own avatar amazing. Even though I’m more on the Style Boutique side, I like the dress up factor.

Two Parsecs from Earth feels more like a blueprint to the start of something bigger. Maybe it was budget restrictions who knows. All it really ends up being is a simple find the collectibles title with clunky controls. I know for myself how hard game development is but it’s hard not to point out that there are other Metroidvania games out there that feel more rewarding to play and cost less. It’s not bad by any stretch but it does easily sit in the realm of mediocre.

Loved - Crown Trick
Oct 16, 2020

You can see the love the developers have put into the game while your playing it. Yes, some areas do become repetitive as most games do at some stage. However, Crown Trick has all the right elements to make it a fantastic dungeon crawler. A good indicator for me of how much I like or love a game when I’m writing a review is that by the time I get to the conclusion to have my last say, I’m busting to finish it off so I can go and play. And that is how I feel about Crown Trick, it has ticked all the right dungeon crawler boxes for me! It’s a wonderful game, with its turn-based combat, where each move is full of possibilities and each battle is a challenge.

Liked-a-lot - Foregone
Oct 15, 2020

Foregone is brilliant looter action game worth sinking time into to. The graphics are gorgeous the combat fluid and rewarding. I enjoyed exploring the world and experimenting with various weapons. It may look like certain games but Foregone easily stands on its own. A real treat on the Switch.

Liked - Dead Z Meat
Oct 15, 2020

Dead Z Meat is a fun silly zombie shooter with some glaring control issues. Its not as good as shooter games seen on the Wii or older consoles but if you’re hungry like a Zombie this is a decent but flawed attempt on Switch. For me it was the right amount of silly I needed right now. I hope the developers get another crack at this formula and return with a more polished experience next time.

This is a standard hidden object game with all the usual toys you expect for the genre. While there is nothing new brought to the genre in the game, nevertheless fans of the series will probably enjoy this game. Whilst The Secret Order: Return to the Buried Kingdom has way more mini-games and puzzles than there are hidden object scenes, I did enjoy my short time (approx 3/4 hours) with the game even if I didn’t feel challenged.

This game also has co-op. I hope my friends think about this one, it looks like it will be really fun to play with others. It’s hectic and makes me nervous to play, but that’s probably because I’m not good at shooting games. I find using the right stick awkward to aim with, but I’m slowly getting used to it. All in all, I’d say Danger Gazers is worth trying. For only $9.99, it’s a cheap, fun thrill, especially if you can convince your friends to join you.

What influences my opinion is that this is, after all, a platformer at heart. The challenges got more difficult the farther I went in, to a point where I despaired of ever progressing. But, it doesn’t seem fair to reflect the fact that I’m awful at platforming gameplay in the final verdict. So I will say: if you like platformers and like a bit of food for thought, this is a great game. If you are bad at platforming, then you may have to find someone in your family to help you along in tight spots to enjoy the entire story.

Liked-a-lot - Unrailed!
Oct 9, 2020

Unrailed is just the ticket for simple pick up and play gaming fun. The experience becomes more alive if your able to share it with others but with the addition of a good AI companion and decent online functions you never have to build the railroad alone. A nice wholesome game with simple controls that might just be the spark of gaming your looking for right now.
