Road to Guangdong is far from the visual novel with an added “zen” driving experience that it claims. This game feels like it was hastily thrown together as fast as possible with little care regarding gaming mechanics. The controls do not respond as they should and even trying to look around is a frustrating, difficult experience that is not worth the time or money, in my opinion. When considering Road to Guangdong‘s price point and all of its flaws, I would definitely steer away from this game.

I had been looking forward to playing Ary and the Secret of Seasons since the game was announced. Unfortunately, I’m left feeling disappointed in the game. I do like the swapping of seasons mechanic to solve the puzzles. Once the game is updated and if the glitches are successfully removed I do think Ary and the Secret of Seasons would make a great family game for the whole family to play together. As the game is at the moment with its frequent framerate drops, stuttering and glitches which actually put you off playing the game. I can’t, in all honesty, recommended it as a fun and entertaining experience currently.

It’s been a while since I have played the mobile version but it seems like there are a lot of upgrades that make this game so much better than before too, such as the addition of the MyPad (haha!) that gives quests and has an achievement system. It would be great if they added more quests, though, as that part seems a bit bare but the MyApp says “more quests coming soon” so I hope that will be fixed soon! If you enjoy restaurant or simulation games, go on and give Good Pizza, Great Pizza a shot! Just make sure you clear your plans for the day though… You will be finding yourself saying “I’ll stop after one more day” or “I’ll take a break after I hit $300” over and over!

A game that keeps me playing for just one more turn, and then one more, even when I’m tired after a long day is a great game in my book. Niche – A Genetics Survival Game isn’t a game for everyone. Of course, you can dive in and just create your family without keeping the genetics in mind. But the deeper I delved, the more the game appealed to me. Notebook at the ready, keeping track of what genes I wanted to strive for, making choices to make the gene pool stable and strong. I love it. So if you like a game that you can sink your teeth in, and you love planning, strategising and playing around to get the best results, then Niche is your game. No fighting (well, aside from defending yourself from a predator), no violence, taking your time and trying to get a thriving tribe of Nichelings while exploring the surroundings. It will make for many, many hours of gaming fun.

Liked-a-lot - Mask of Mists
Sep 2, 2020

The flat introduction and the anticlimactic ending have definitely dampened my spirits about the game a bit, but overall, I definitely enjoyed it. I’m already thinking about revisiting the Infected Territory to find the easter eggs I missed and tie up the loose ends I left dangling in my first playthrough. While the setup and conclusion could have been more effective, the gameplay is what matters, and the gameplay was immersive, interesting, and dynamic. I’d definitely recommend Mask of Mists to anyone looking for an atmospheric puzzle game that keeps them on their toes.

There is a whole section of unlockable stories in Unlimited called Adonis. These are some “what if” side stories that allow you to see what could have happened if you had joined Adonis in the original game. It is things like this that would be so much richer if you play through Collar X Malice first. Handsome hunks and healing hearts, cracking crimes and courting cuties. Collar X Malice -Unlimited- will provide hours of enjoyment if you are a fan of the genre… just, play through Collar X Malice first.

I am going to be 100% honest here as a gamer and a music lover. I have absolutely fallen in love with No Straight Roads. The sheer diversity of style and inspiration and even the music at play here and the experimental mix of rhythm and action works out in it’s favor as it may help out with learning people how to time parries and dodges. Also the Switch version running at 60FPS is something I really praise. I am 100% recommending this to people who enjoy stylish indie games and music be it Rock, Rap or one of the various EDM genres the game has on offer.

Liked - Collapsed
Aug 31, 2020

Things started off pretty stable in terms of performance when playing Collapsed. But every now and then my character fell through the floor or an enemy would get stuck behind a barrier. This would of course happen when I was on a successful run. Unfortunately my only option would be to restart the game and since the game doesn’t save your progress between runs it was a bit of a let down. Hopefully these bugs will be ironed out in future patches. Collapsed is a entertaining rogue lite looter shooter. A fun mix of shooting and melee combat that kept me wanting to grind away at the game again and again. While it has a few bugs it makes up for it with solid controls and an enjoyable gameplay loop. It’s certainly a fun way to enjoy the apocalypse I’ll give it that.

The overall game is around four hours the first time through. You may struggle through the first playthrough, maybe saving too much or using too many health items. But after memorizing the locations of items, puzzle solutions, and boss patterns you’ll fare a lot better on a second playthrough. Despite all the faults of this game, I still kinda dug it. While the point-and-click design seems pointless, it’s different and something often not braved in game design. Kwaidan is a hidden gem with some rough edges. But if you’re able to look past them, there’s an entertaining experience here. I certainly hope this is not the last we’ve seen from this series.

I wanted to love Manifold Garden. It has a gorgeous design, thoroughly unique concept, and is wonderfully challenging despite being frustrating at times. Unfortunately, it just makes me too ill to play in the type of bursts I’d like to. If you’re unaffected by motion sickness then there’s a real gem of a puzzler here, but I’d recommend watching some gameplay first to make sure that you’ll be ok – I’ve heard multiple counts of it negatively affecting people who normally have no issues.

Loved - Evergate
Aug 29, 2020

Evergate is a beautiful and clever platformer. Once you get your head round the mechanics there is something quite special here to enjoy for the puzzle-platforming fan. If you need to take a break away from this world for a while, Evergate will take you to an afterlife with great music, rewarding challenges, and a moving story that may just speak to those who share a special bond with someone.

Loved - Windbound
Aug 28, 2020

The focus in Windbound is definitely more on the survival side, with you keeping protagonist Kara alive in this rogue-like game. The game also takes the survival genre in a new direction by providing endless replay-ability options thanks to the procedural world, and dynamic because of the modular craft you can build. As each time you play the size of your boat changes depending on what resources you can find on the islands, these dictate the type of boat you can build. There is something quite satisfying about building your own boat and setting sail across the sea into unknown territory in Windbound. I’ve found the game to be very entertaining and a lot of fun to play.

Liked-a-lot - Nexomon: Extinction
Aug 28, 2020

This game is far from just another Pokémon rip-off. Nexomon: Extinction improves on all the places that fans have been asking for. It’s a beautiful game with a dark yet humorous story. It also isn’t afraid to challenge players and seriously twist their conceptions of these types of games. If you’re craving a monster catching game or even just an RPG with a good story, then you cannot pass up the chance to play Nexomon: Extinction.

Liked-a-lot - Serious Scramblers
Aug 27, 2020

Once you are done with the campaign there are plenty of characters to unlock. The real replay value comes from playing the games unlock-able ‘endless mode’. Essentially the core game goes on forever until you die. So if your a fan of high scores this is the mode you may want to sink your extra time into. Serious Scamblers is a highly addictive arcade style game at a super cheap price. Simple controls and nice pixel graphics make this an easy title to recommend for the busy gamer. Quick and to the point fun just as video games should be.

I do not say this lightly but this is literally the best hidden object puzzle type game that I have ever played. It has been available on Steam for some time, but recently moved to Android as well. Let’s hope it will get to the iOS store too! The puzzles are just challenging enough and each one feels unique. I love that it is a longer game and every second of play has just been absolutely fantastic! I hope to see other, similar games from these developers because they clearly put in a lot of time and work to create quality games!

Mixed - MazezaM
Aug 25, 2020

There was a time I remember vividly that games just like MazezaM were enough. But I don’t think everyone will feel that way when playing this title. Somewhere though I like to picture there’s a gamer, possibly elderly, enjoying this title on their sofa. And they are smiling. Underneath the simple graphics and questionable design decisions is a decent puzzle game. But there is little to make this stand out from the crowd and draw in your attention. Only the die hard puzzle fans may want to seek this one out.

Liked-a-lot - Prehistoric Dude
Aug 22, 2020

Prehistoric Dude is short, easy but has a charm to it that I couldn’t help but enjoy. Sometimes there are those games that make you smile and forget the stress that’s going on around you. While this won’t be for everyone, it won me over and I could see myself picking this up again for a replay when I want to enjoy some prehistoric entertainment.

Liked-a-lot - Giraffe and Annika
Aug 21, 2020

Giraffe and Annika is packed full of charm, a little childlike innocence, and a few rhythmic battles that break up the questing. They make up the unique title that Giraffe and Annika is and though I enjoyed the game I didn’t find it much of a challenge. Which bring me to the conclusion that Giraffe and Annika would be a fantastic game for a family with younger children to play-through together to discover the Islands of Spica. Alternatively, an adult can enjoy the game as well but don’t expect much of a challenge in any part of the game, just a chilled out experience.

Developer FuturLabs has been quoted often about their choice to use the puzzle genre for the Peaky Blinders foray into the gaming world. Many soundbite worthy quotes about it being linked to Tommy Shelby’s mind and the way in which he can see the perfect plan unfold do make sense. However I can’t help but feel that with a bigger budget, this puzzle based element would have merely been one part of a much larger game world. Perhaps more in the vein of Mafia 3 with the added time manipulation on offer here in Mastermind. However, I should point out that FuturLab has done a good job with the limited resources on hand, it is just a shame we couldn’t have played around inside the Peaky Blinder world with a little more depth.

Mixed - Cubicity
Aug 20, 2020

Even with added mechanics, the gameplay gets stale before long. The repetitive task of moving characters from point A to point B could only sustain my interest for so long. However, I feel that this game is just the right amount of complicated for a little kid. The puzzles change bit by bit as you move along, and the bright, cheery colors and animal companions could suit a younger audience. That said, I feel I could only recommend Cubicity if it was for a child, as the gameplay is repetitive and lacks the depth of a story.
