Movies Games and Tech's Reviews

Jan 4, 2021

Don’t worry. The small issue of the narrative doesn’t even come close to undermining what’s good here. Not For Broadcast is easily one of the most unique games I’ve played. Not only that, but you literally see the work the team put in. The humour and the pacing of the videos pair seamlessly with the game’s mechanics. It’s chaotic, it’s stress-inducing, it’s beautiful. You’ll often feel like Homer Simpson sitting at the nuclear power plant blindly pressing buttons, but you’ll enjoy every second of it.

Whenever I started up the game I found myself playing for much more time than Initially expected. Some visuals are distracting for me and get me occasionally frustrated when it felt like my death wasn’t my fault. However the game still keeps pulling me in and whenever I fail it always makes me feel like I can do better and I end up improving my game in small but noticeable ways. The game is also great to watch and listen to, which made it entertaining even when I wasn’t the one playing and I am sure I would enjoy playing it with someone even though it is a single player game.

6 / 10.0 - Dreadlands
Jan 2, 2021

Unfortunately, for the most part, Dreadlands has been done before. Even the few unique mechanics are not enough to save it from feeling stale. It’s made all the more frustrating because it’s easy to see the charm and playability hidden just beneath the problems that plaguing the current state of the game. Instead of a quirky, niche turn-based strategy game, we’ve got a game that feels like a total slog to get through.

All in all, The Suicide of Rachel Foster is an okay but not great game. It is a well-polished 90’s style mystery-thriller game. That tries hard to create an atmosphere of tension and creepiness with twists you expect from a game of this style. For the most part, it succeeds, but never reaches its full potential due to multiple flaws that ruin the game’s immersion that it tries so hard to build.

9 / 10.0 - Wingspan
Dec 31, 2020

For doubters, look through this review and count how many times I said ‘relaxing’ or mentioned the ‘slow-pace’ of the game. If this appeals to you, go out and buy Wingspan. That’s exactly what it is. It’s a beautifully designed and truly unique card game. This Steam port clearly builds off of a solid foundation from its board game progenitor. If my endorsement means anything, this game couldn’t deviate further from my normal interests, and I loved every second of it.

8 / 10.0 - Eastern Exorcist
Dec 30, 2020

Eastern Exorcist is a game that continues to surprise you. When I thought it was easy, it humbled me. When I felt the story was growing stale, I was thrown for a loop. I was constantly changing my perception of the game. But, be warned before you buy: this game is hard. And, in that regard, it makes no apologies. You will constantly be challenged. The reward is that you get to progress through a game that is fun, imaginative, and couched in a setting that has not already been done to death.

7 / 10.0 - Cyberpunk 2077
Dec 29, 2020

Cyberpunk 2077 was doomed to fail. It’s not an unplayably bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but it could never live up to the hype that surrounded its release. Don’t get me wrong, you could play Cyberpunk 2077 and have an absolute blast, but it’s more likely that you won’t. I could almost feel the game constantly oscillating between an incredible experience and shockingly bad. The hard truth is that CDPR should have delayed the release even further. Sure, people grew tired of waiting, but the product we received on launch was an insult. It’s not that the glitches and bugs are impossible to ignore; you just shouldn’t have to. As it stands, Cyberpunk 2077 still has ridiculous potential, but CDPR has a lot of work to do to get there.

9 / 10.0 - Get-A-Grip Chip
Dec 28, 2020

Get-A-Grip Chip is the sort of game that arises from a well-focused development team. It is beautifully smooth and playable. It stays true to its base mechanics yet pushes the boundaries whenever possible. The art style is quirky and unique. I felt like I was playing a game made by people who truly understood what they had made. They always had their finger on the pulse. The only issue is when you make a game this enjoyable, I want to play it for much longer than I was able to here.

7 / 10.0 - HyperParasite
Dec 27, 2020

However, for what HyperParasite lacks in presentation and progression, its unique gameplay ideas and exciting abilities make every run feel different enough to want to keep coming back for more, and it will have you muttering, “Just one more run” for hours.

7 / 10.0 - Calico
Dec 27, 2020

I was not really expecting much from Calico, but I definitely had an enjoyable playthrough. The game itself is relatively short though, as there is not much to do after completing the main questline other than spicing up your café. However, it is the type of game you could check back into now and then to satisfy your need of being surrounded by cute and cuddly virtual animals. For me, I might boot up Calico once in a while to make sure my cat, Mr Pudgems, doesn’t feel too lonely.

All in all, Rusty Spout’s Rescue Adventure is a great little bubble puzzle shooter. Although, it doesn’t reinvent the wheel within its genre and is notably tricky. Making it a challenging entry point for new players into the puzzle bubble popping scene. It is a fun and addictive puzzle game with a charming soundtrack and art style and a difficulty level that will appeal to experienced puzzle gamers.

8 / 10.0 - Neoverse
Dec 24, 2020

If it sounds like I didn’t enjoy Neoverse, I actually did. It’s a clone, sure, but it’s a well made clone of an already great game. Beyond some balancing issues, there really isn’t much wrong with Neoverse. It’s just that the successful aspects of Neoverse (and there are plenty) have already been discussed ad nauseam when Slay the Spire released; they aren’t worth mentioning. As it is, Neoverse stands as a solid alternative with a bit of balancing issues and a different art style. It’s simple as that.

7.5 / 10.0 - Space Crew
Dec 23, 2020

Let me take one step back. There is plenty of fun to be had for the casual gamer in Space Crew, but true enjoyment will come from fans of grinding and developing within the game. If you’re the type of person who loves to tinker and micromanage, pick the game up, you won’t be disappointed.

One for the Christmas list and definitely one to showcase the power of your PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X if you were lucky to get one but it has been a rocky launch for the game with technical issues still plaguing the online element that till need to be ironed out for this to be the enjoyment Treyarch wants you to have.

There is just so much to do and see in Valhalla which I have purposefully refrained from divulging too much about the main story so not to spoil it for you. Know this, Valhalla Is exactly the game this series needed right now by continuing on the path to the open world RPG that began with Origins but also being mindful to remember the games that brought us to this point and both celebrating it and using elements to enhance the experience of playing a good Assassin’s Creed game should give fans.

There’s an interesting concept for a horror game here with an insane story burdened by many issues. It’s a shame since the story is interesting, but not interesting enough to put up with so many flaws. Perhaps the true villain in Remothered: Broken Porcelain are the lengthy loading screens (on Xbox One at least) that will surely haunt the dreams of those that experience them.

8.5 / 10.0 - Watch Dogs: Legion
Nov 6, 2020

Watch Dogs Legion is worth your attention if you are a fan of the series and will other enough gameplay to make it fun to have and not a bad way to try out your shiny new next gen console should you get one or find one under your Christmas tree this year. It will be interesting to see what DLC will bring to it with the Season Pass but for now, there is enough here to keep you going and it will never not be fun to recruit a team of OAPs and have them take down an entire enemy base!

Little Hope managed to actually give me some hope for this series after Man of Medan ultimately failed to deliver anything other than a lacklustre experience.
