Geeks & Com's Reviews

Aug 19, 2023

In conclusion, Spike Chunsoft delivers another excellent murder mystery that adds a good layer of renewal. If you like Danganronpa, AI The Somnium Files or Zero Espace, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE is right up your alley. It's a game full of twists and turns, aimed at a mature audience with a taste for wacky adventures. It's an easy recommendation to make, and brings yet more variety to the Nintendo Switch's library of exclusive games.

All in all, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an excellent addition to the PC catalog. Especially as the genre covered is relatively rare. The game impresses both visually and audibly. Despite some script weaknesses, characters that are often too clichéd and minor technical flaws, the gameplay experience and sense of constantly renewed discovery are supported by levels and a slightly cracked, highly imaginative arsenal. In short, it's a strong comeback for Sony, which manages to erase, in part, the disappointment of March, but the premium price is hard to justify for a game that's over 2 years old now.

8 / 10.0 - The Last Worker
Aug 10, 2023

All in all, The Last Worker is a good game for VR. Without being perfect, it has a good lifespan and an interesting story. Sprinkled with humor and challenges, the game will keep you laughing and occupied for a good while. Admittedly, it's aimed more at fans of series like Borderlands, but can also appeal to everyone. I think the experience is more interesting in virtual reality. That said, it's also playable without this technology. However, if you have the opportunity to try it out in VR, it's worth considering! Finally, there were a few technical issues that made me cringe on a few occasions. For all these reasons, The Last Worker is in my TOP 5 on PS VR2. For those interested, here it is:

8 / 10.0 - F1 Manager 2023
Aug 4, 2023

F1 Manager 2023 remains a fun experience for all fans of management games and Formula 1. The title features a fairly comprehensive team manager career mode. Nevertheless, the new features lack polish, and I would have appreciated the option of starting a career in lower categories before moving up to the premier class. Especially as Frontier Developments already has the licenses for the latter. The title is mainly aimed at players who haven't played the previous opus, while the lack of new features could put off older players.

7.5 / 10.0 - Venba
Jul 31, 2023

Venba is a unique experience that clearly offers a different way of telling a story. While gameplay isn't the title's masterpiece, it's still fun to understand the recipes and try to complete them. Clearly, the title would have benefited from more stages in the preparation of dishes to prolong the adventure. In a way, while the game doesn't do anything particularly bad, we're left a little disappointed. Perhaps I'd have liked the gameplay phases to have been a little longer, even if this shifts the way the story is told. There's no doubt that the Visai Studios team is talented, and we'll have to keep an eye on their next projects!

Construction Simulator is without doubt the most complete opus in the franchise, developed by the Weltenbauer studio. The missions are varied, there's dubbing for the campaigns, and there are two zones large enough to vary the fun. While there are a few machines that are more difficult to handle, the overall experience is pretty fun, especially since it's possible to play with 3 other people. The tasks may seem, and sometimes are, repetitive, but the accessibility options mean that there's something for everyone. The title is clearly recommended for simulation fans, but also for those new to the genre.

9 / 10.0 - Pikmin 4
Jul 19, 2023

Pikmin 4 offers plenty of new great gameplay elements to make it an excellent follow-up to the previous entries. With the addition of the Dandori modes and your loyal dog Otchin, the series has never put forth so many strategic elements. It’s a real delight.

9.5 / 10.0 - Final Fantasy XVI
Jul 13, 2023

Final Fantasy XVI enters my top 3 for 2023. With its gripping story and commendable graphics, Square Enix's latest offering is a masterpiece. Despite a few technical glitches, it verges on perfection. Its main character, Clive, takes us through a whole range of emotions. Add to this a masterful soundtrack, and we have all the ingredients to create a game that will go down as one of the best video games of the decade. Exclusive to the PS5, Final Fantasy XVI has the potential to become a system seller. For beginners, the developers have added a story mode. So you can enjoy the experience in a very gentle way. For purists, you can complete the game once again in extreme mode. Whichever way you play, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. After all, FFXVI could be a TV series, and it would be very popular. So, will you succeed in restoring peace to Valesthea?

It's hard not to suggest Oxenfree II: Lost Signals after all that's been said, isn't it? It's only natural: the game has a depth of storytelling and atmosphere not often found in video games. You become attached to the characters, to their lives, to what they've become and also to what they're going to become. And all this depends solely on you and the decisions you make on your journey. If, of course, you make it out alive.

Sold at a low price, Dr. Fetus' Mean Meat Machine is certainly not the experience that fans of the Super Meat Boy franchise have been waiting for. The title offers an original variation on the puzzle games of the same type, with a world that's as well-realized as ever. Nevertheless, balancing and latency problems detract from the overall experience that the Headup Development team is trying to deliver. The idea isn't bad, but it lacks a little polish. Not to mention that it's more than a little strange to see this kind of game for the franchise when gamers are still hoping for a proper sequel to the first opus.

Crash Team Rumble is a lot of fun, and you'll enjoy trying out the different character classes, even in single-player mode. Its pleasant gameplay and successful art direction won't be enough to keep the title alive for months if the developers at Toys for Bob don't add content soon. Despite its lower retail price than a traditional AAA, I'm not convinced that the game will work when users will regularly have to dig deep into their pockets to obtain the season pass. My advice, perhaps, is to wait for a discount unless you're a huge fan of the franchise.

Convergence doesn't revolutionize anything in a genre that has seen almost everything before. Despite this, the game introduces some interesting elements without ever fully exploiting them. You don't have to be the biggest League of Legends fan to appreciate what's happening on screen. And for the price, the game offers a good lifespan without prolonging it for nothing. The platforming phases are the best part, unlike the combat phases, which are harder to follow. Maybe it's my age too. I'm getting old.

8 / 10.0 - Crime O'Clock
Jul 4, 2023

Let's face it, Crime O'Clock is aimed at a discerning audience who enjoy board games and research. We shouldn't expect more from this game, but should we? Not only does this game succeed in its genre, but it also gives us our money's worth with its multiple scenarios. Although you might think that the Nintendo Switch in portable mode would be well suited to the game, I'd still recommend playing it on a TV. Especially as you could then include the family in your games. Charlie has come a long way since then!

At the risk of repeating myself, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a great game. If you like intrigue, comedy and puzzle games, you must give it a try. The script is extremely well written, the game is visually stunning despite its age, and the lifespan is more than reasonable, with an average of 12 hours of gameplay. It would be a shame for this quality title to sink into oblivion, but thanks to this remaster, new players will have the chance to discover it. And that's a win-win situation.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie contains DON'T NOD's best narrative since the excellent Life is Strange. The fact that you have to manage two realities at the same time is well established, and you can quickly see the consequences of your choices. The multiple possibilities offered by the Mantique system make the game extremely replayable. Many will miss the lack of real action, however, as the game consists solely of choosing which actions to perform. The game's distinctive style is very well executed and lends it a great deal of charm. Despite a few long stretches, you'll have a great time in the company of Polly and Harmonie.

In conclusion, Xenoblade Chronicles 3's Future Regained content delivers exactly what fans of the series wanted. We're reunited with two of the series' iconic characters who have left their mark on us, and we're able to forge links with the 3rd. Although a few mysteries still linger, it's a very good conclusion that's definitely worth the price.

9 / 10.0 - Diablo IV
Jun 30, 2023

In conclusion, I'm really enjoying Diablo IV. The gameplay is efficient and suits me perfectly. The story kept me on the edge of my seat right to the end, and its production quality served it particularly well. The sanctuary world is particularly large and I always have something to do even when my friends are offline. I hope that Blizzard will offer quality free content between now and the first paid expansion. For me, it's a success from start to finish, despite minor irritants.

8.5 / 10.0 - F1 23
Jun 27, 2023

This year's edition of F1 23 is far more complete than last year's, with the return of the story mode, improved gameplay, the arrival of a central hub with several ways of racing, and the introduction of the red flag. Codemasters undoubtedly has what it takes to convince players to pay for the game this time around, despite the absence of an update for F2 or the lack of novelty offered by the career mode.

Story of Seasons is a good game for relaxing. There's plenty to do and discover, but given the length of the game, these various tasks can become monotonous and repetitive. The game has an addictive feel to it, and the hours spent playing are hard to miss. Still, I would have preferred more events and interactions to develop relationships with the inhabitants. If you like games like Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley or even FarmVille, you'll have a great time in Forgotten Valley.
