For a new IP, and a game that I didn’t know a great deal about prior to playing it, I really enjoyed my time with it. If this is the beginning of a new franchise, then I will look forward to what Deck 13 have to offer as their previous outings in The Lords of the Fallen and The Surge games have certainly cemented them as a solid hand in game development.
Vader Immortal is a fun experience. The graphics are great and the story feels at home as a side narrative in the Star Wars universe. The gameplay is more restrictive than I would have liked, but using the lightsaber and the force never stops being cool. If you like the subject matter and don’t mind a short experience I recommend picking this one up.
This is a good game, and it’s fun and rewarding once you’ve unlocked those second, third and fourth magic sources. I firmly believe Forspoken will in time be given the Days Gone treatment, people who once sneered will be changing their tune. But like any proposed Day’s Gone sequel, I see Forspoken suffering the same fate…
The foundations of Dragon Quest Treasures are something that could be fine-tuned, polished and improved for a truly great title in the future.
The Sorrowvirus: A Faceless Short Story is a game I am glad I checked out. I went in not knowing what to expect and came out with a story that stuck with me long after I rolled the credits all four times. It’s not without its shortcomings, but this is a great example of what a small team can accomplish on a limited budget.
I would absolutely recommend Ayo the Clown. I went in expecting little more than a functioning platformer, but Cloud M1 has put together a beautiful world, a cute cast of characters and a cracking soundtrack all topped off with some fun gameplay. This is the type of platformer that we don’t see enough of on PlayStation or Xbox and it is certainly a welcome addition!
I recommend picking this one up. This title does play it safer in terms of anime girl outfits than some of the other entries and the soundtrack got on my nerves pretty early doors, but it’s nothing a mute button and a good podcast can’t solve. I have some mixed feelings. On the one hand, I adore Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water for its deeply old-fashioned control scheme and clunky gameplay. I love the rough-around-the-edges graphics that speak of a time that was slightly browner. I love the darkness of the storyline and the bleak personalities of the unfortunate characters. I love all these things, but my heart also longs for an improved version that controls better, looks better and sounds better. Maybe a new game in the series will take care of this longing, but until then we still have a very decent horror game that is well worth a stab.
Far Cry is simply more of the same. Well, almost the same, as a bunch of systems have been expanded even further into RPG territory, and you have even more control over your gameplay than ever before. Despite all this, it still feels like more of the same. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. Far Cry 6 can still be a lot of fun. If you liked previous games in the series, particularly 3 and 4, then you’re bound to enjoy 6. There’s something comforting in the known. In the familiar. That being said, I definitely wouldn’t mind being surprised by whatever comes next.
Overall, The Thaumaturge delivers with its captivating visuals, immersive audio, and compelling narrative. Mileage on its combat system may vary, but the intricate storytelling provides a unique gaming experience, blending supernatural elements seamlessly into a historical backdrop of societal turmoil and unrest.
I've relished my time with the game and hope more people will give it a chance in the coming months. It has some great visuals and fun gameplay and never takes itself too seriously; I hope we see more games like this in 2024. If you missed this one release, pick it up if you see it on sale; just don't expect to find it for a dollar.
While it was absolutely great to have a traditional Yakuza game again and I really enjoyed it, I don’t feel Gaiden actually adds all that much to the canon. However, I certainly hope we see more releases of this scale.
Despite a few hitches in terms of character models and longer than expected load times, Assassin’s Creed Nexus manages to deliver exactly what it set out to do: provide an authentic Assassin’s Creed game in VR. It won’t be for everyone and there is plenty of quieter moments in amongst the action, but this is one adventure AC fans won’t want to miss.
What we have here is a short, but memorable adventure. The world has been crafted with excellent attention to detail harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 5.2 and the small cast deliver believable, memorable performances. If you are a fan of games that put narrative at the forefront, then Fort Solis is an easy recommendation.
Those two stick around more than half a dozen hours will likely just be playing exhibition matches with friends or against the AI. If that doesn’t sound like enough, AEW Fight Forever may not be for you. However, if like me you are here for the gameplay then you will likely get many hours of grappling fun from a title that successfully pays tribute to the golden age of wrestling games.
Forza Horizon 5 is fantastic; everyone should play the game on whatever platform they can. Even if driving games are not your thing, I implore you to try it
Tin Hearts is a puzzle game that challenges players to manipulate the environment and guide tin soldiers to their destination, while also offering a thought-provoking story and exceptional world-building.
Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is a thoroughly enjoyable detective adventure which is well written and explores some dark themes. The gameplay, mostly notably the absence of action, will not be to every player’s taste but for those who appreciate this style, it will deliver an exceptionally rewarding experience.
Hubris VR is a game well worth picking up if your PC can handle it. Its story serves its purpose, but the beautiful graphics, and engaging gameplay make it a standout title in the VR space. As I said earlier there may be aspects I would have liked to see tightened up, but these are small gripes for a product that has really delivered on its vision. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or new to VR, you’ll find plenty to love.
When the soccer (I’ll begrudgingly use the word for this analogy) is the worst part of a game called Soccer Story you’d be forgiven for thinking it would be a miss. Not so. A interesting cast of characters, plenty of fun tasks, a beautiful art style and more come together to make this a blast to play.
