Yes - Worldless
Nov 20, 2023

Worldless, the title of Noname Studios, gives a curious approach to the metroidvania genre by integrating a turn-based combat system, as well as an ingenious and very stylized visual section. A video game with an incredible charisma, which is built from the successful use of its audiovisual and mechanical elements, as well as a very interesting interpretative narrative.

Vengeance of Mr. Peppermint is a beat 'em up inspired by movies like Oldboy or The Chaser that, while boasting style and plenty of violence, falls short in several key aspects. It's not the worst game of the year, although it can't be denied that it's perhaps one of the most disappointing. Its trailer gave a glimpse of something that later in practice does not end up being fulfilled. Hack The Publisher could have given life to a perfect homage to Korean thrillers.

The Dragon of Dojima is back in Like a Dragon Gaiden, a new entry in the saga that, far from being a spin-off, offers a lot of action and answers to numerous unknowns. An extremely fun installment, although this comes hand in hand with an inescapable nostalgia factor and knowing how to appreciate the references to characters or situations from previous games.

The Talos Principle 2, the sequel to Croteam's acclaimed title, offers a wonderful experience full of puzzles that will test our logic and reasoning skills. Undoubtedly this sequel is not only a benchmark of the genre along with Portal, but it surpasses its predecessor in every aspect, especially in its narrative that seems more complex, since it does not revolve around the protagonist and his motivations, but also on the NPC that populate the world.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, the sequel to the 2021 arcade racing game, repeats the formula with additions that manage to keep the heart of the game fresh: quick and simple fun. An arcade proposal, oriented to fast fun but with a large number of vehicles and tracks that guarantee its longevity.

World of Horror, Paweł Koźmiński's title proves that you don't need Unreal Engine 5 and volumetric lights to torment the heart of a horror fan. A game that handles subtleties well and mixes them with a dash of Junji Ito-style gore, with simple but gripping stories, enhanced by the vulnerability of our characters and the consequences we will have to face after every decision.

Dambuster Studios seeks to monopolize our time with Dead Island 2 - Haus, the first DLC of the horror FPS that struggles to get on everyone's lips, but without the ambition to achieve it. It's not bad content, but it feels like a lot of wasted potential that, leaves us with a taste of little. Perhaps it would be better to wait a bit before returning to Hell-A.

Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, the new work of Upstream Arcade, is a roguelike that pays homage to Mike Mignola's iconic character, but stumbling a few times along the way. Recommended for Hellboy fans who want to take control of the charismatic demon and indulge in slapping and smashing heads with a wonderful art style that perfectly captures the aesthetics of the comic.

Ghostrunner 2, the new release from One More Level, is a spectacular action adventure that tests our reflexes as we move at full speed through a cyberpunk world. With a duration of approximately 12 hours, this installment only needs a simple plot and a handful of new villains to offer an adventure that is strengthened with a couple of new mechanics and a simple but effective gameplay.

Collossal Order returns with Cities: Skylines 2, the sequel to the acclaimed simulator that became a reference of the genre, which, although it does not redefine the experience, seeks to give it a new approach. A game whose additions are extremely solid, so much so as to satisfy a very detailed public that enjoys being in each and every one of the most intimate details of their creations.

Ion Fury: Aftershock is a DLC that will hardly manage to evangelize those who were in doubt but that, undoubtedly, will satisfy fans who want a little more of the same. A DLC that keeps the good things from the original game, but misses the opportunity to evolve in certain aspects.

Vlad Circus: Descend Into Madness is a title that reminds us that madness can wear big shoes, white gloves, have a pale face and a red nose, but be far from making us laugh. It is a delicate title that brings together several elements to shape its mechanics and thus keep players in suspense. It is a shame that at times it is inevitable to disconnect from the central axis by entertaining us with actions that ultimately do not end up defining the protagonist or his intentions.

The Broken Spear team has managed to develop a title that, although it doesn't invent anything, offers a series of very entertaining missions that manage to keep you hooked for a long time. It still has a long way to go. Although Beneath Oresa has a great potential, it can undoubtedly be exploited even more.

The Lamplighters League, the new game from Harebrained Schemes, is a fun and interesting adventure, which stumbles in its attempt to put a twist on the turn-based tactics genre. The characters and setting are its strongest points, while the combat is fun and varied thanks to the abilities of each agent, which makes the game despite its rough edges, enjoyable.

Crimson Tactics: The Rise of The White Banner is a tactical RPG inspired by classics of the genre that, although it is technically polished, its irregularities in the gameplay do not allow it to shine. Those who are looking for a high-quality exponent of the genre will have to wait for those future patches that the title is crying out for.

Yes - Starfield
Sep 27, 2023

Starfield, Bethesda's new RPG is already among us, with a proposal that, although it falls back on old vices, also stands out for its virtues, which reach their highest point. But also a video game that is frustrating, not because it is bad, but because it is evident that it has the potential to be much better.
