La Orden del Pixel's Reviews

Call of Olympus is a DLC that, while remaining in the familiar territory, seeks to renew the formula of the Kingdom saga thanks to the addition of interesting new features, an excellent addition for a title that still has a lot to give. Undoubtedly, we are facing a great excuse to return -or also discover- one of the best games in its genre.

With Athena Crisis, Nakazawa Tech brings us a very colorful and highly entertaining strategy experience with tactical battles that are not suitable for the clueless, a game that although it has a campaign and a demanding multiplayer, its great value lies in the level editor. In this sense, the possibilities are really endless, offering us the possibility of generating dialogues, stories and characters that we can involve in the conflicts we want to create.

Not Yet - Codex Lost
Nov 28, 2024

Freemana invites us to become a wizard with Codex Lost, a title that despite its limitations, is enjoyable and offers a different approach to the soulslike genre. However, the seams are visible at key points. An example of this is the lack of polish in the combat system, the lack of character weight, graphics and sounds, the latter being a factor that may cause many players not to give it a chance.

Garcia Hotspur and Johnson return to the wanderings with Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, a very good remastering that keeps the 2011 cult experience intact. A game with an author's imprint marked to the core deserves to remain as it was conceived by two geniuses such as Suda51 and Mikami. Because it is precisely all the good and the bad, its strengths and weaknesses, that make Shadows of the Damned a timeless cult videogame and an experience difficult to forget.

The Guerrilla Games franchise jumps to the blocks with LEGO Horizon Adventures, a visually striking title but that does not use the identifying characteristics of this type of adaptations. a technically delicious game with an entertaining story, but that in the gameplay is not up to the level of LEGO or Horizon. In spite of this, I think that the little ones will enjoy it without too many problems, especially if they play with several friends.

The Game Kitchen brings back the mythical sword Mea Culpa in a bittersweet DLC that lacks in narrative terms, but enriches the playability of the best metroidvania of 2023. The return of some iconic characters and, of course, of the mythical sword feels like a caress. However, these two elements were so well developed in the first installment, that here they just feel like a sort of fan service.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered invites us to an epic journey in a post-apocalyptic world more beautiful than ever, perfect for new players, but with no new features for veterans. Those who already have the original, and want to see it in all its splendor, will be able to update it for a small fee. For its part, the remastered version includes the expansion, which offers more than 40 hours of action and adventures. In any case, I don't think an upgrade was necessary. The game remains just as colorful and fun as before.

Yes - Neva
Nov 4, 2024

Nomada Studio returns with Neva, a heartbreaking, emotional and contemplative adventure, whose visuals and sound make it one of the best experiences of the year. A beautiful experience to behold, that entertains from beginning to end without being too long, and that without much effort, manages to leave a mark in the heart.

Black Myth: Wukong is an adventure that pays tribute to the original work, inviting us to discover the Chinese mythology with an amazing graphics and action-packed gameplay. Game Science managed to give life to a magnificent adaptation that seems far from finished and that respects the original material in great detail. While it is true that the story is not told in a very clear way and that it suffers from technical problems, we cannot deny that on the other side of the scale we find an excellent title, with a combat system full of possibilities and a scandalous artwork.

Kong: Survivor Instinct is a platformer set in the MonsterVerse where we see the action from the point of view of a human, making us envy the gorilla of Skull Island. The approach is very interesting, but not quite convincing. The game lasts about 8 hours, but from the very first moments it is evident that the difficulty seeks to hook the player based on the repetitiveness and the scarce appearances of the titans.

A year after the release of Starfield, Bethesda returns with Shattered Space, a DLC that abandons procedural worlds to offer a more contained narrative experience. Exploring Va'ruun'kai feels good and rewards us with a narratively solid story and missions that make us think 'outside the box'. While the new approach and design is more than welcome, the experience as a whole needs something more substantial to reach its full potential.

Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft pay homage to the work of Akira Toriyama with Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero, an installment that meets expectations, surpassing even Budokai Tenkaichi 3. A title that fulfills everything, giving life to the best game of the spectacular universe of Dragon Ball. A delivery that honors and pays tribute like few others to the legacy of Akira Toriyama, with much affection, sympathy and love.

Oxide Games seeks to make a place for itself in the 4X strategy with ARA: History Untold, a title that presents several interesting ideas with which it seeks to make a difference with respect to its peers. It's clear that the title needs some adjustments and possibly those responsible for it will fix several aspects in the months to come. Even so, it is still a good addition to the 4X strategy catalog, although it is far from the fight for the crown of the genre.

With Nikoderiko: The Magical World, VEA Games draws attention with a platformer that shows clear nods to the best exponents of the genre, but stands out for its own virtues. Those who enjoy challenges, and are not afraid to repeat levels over and over again until they are perfect, and miss the golden age of Rayman, Crash and Donkey Kong, will find Niko and Luna's adventure a great proposal.

Just2D hits the ground running with Drova - Forsaken Kin, a classic RPG strongly inspired by Gothic, offering a memorable experience that lives up to expectations. Just2D knew how to play the right keys to create a memorable experience that captures the essence of Gothic very well. A solid and deep proposal that, although not designed for everyone, will hardly disappoint the veterans of the genre.

Until Dawn, Supermassive Games' classic looks and feels amazing with a remake that brings it up to modern standards but falls short on interesting additions. Ballistic Moon updates the visuals and brings back the spectacularity of yesteryear, especially in terms of real-time lighting and textures in general, making this the best way to enjoy the title, at least for those who didn't play it in 2015.

God of War: Ragnarök finally arrived on PC with a very solid version that allows us to continue enjoying the adventures of Kratos and a highly epic story. Santa Monica Studio's work is sublime and, except for Atreus' segments in which the adventure loses some momentum, we are in front of a wonderful journey full of action, intimate moments and an epic story. A videogame that does enough merits to live up to expectations.

Paper Ghost Stories proposes an interesting and dark story seen from the point of view of a young girl, which revolves around grieving spirits and family dramas. Although the story loses its way, at the end of the day it is a highly recommendable experience. Perhaps not for those looking for a fast-paced, terrifying story, but for those who want to experience a slow-burning narrative.

Yes - Iron Meat
Sep 26, 2024

Iron Meat, the run and gun by Ivan Valeryevich Suvorov and Retroware, recaptures the essence of Contra by inviting us to save the planet from an invasion of mutant flesh monstrosities. A proposal that boasts a polished gameplay that has nothing to envy to the classics of the nineties that does not come to revolutionize the genre but, at the end of the day, it is not necessary either since playing it is fun and challenging.

DeeDee Creations brings us Squirrel With a Gun, an absurd action game where we assume the role of a squirrel that must fight against secret agents using firearms. The humor it manages is good and original, without being forced to fall into the sexual or tawdry to get a laugh out of us. An interesting experience that could possibly be the kick-off for a small sack.
