COGconnected's Reviews

Even with the new additional content in this "Game of the Year" like instalment, it would have been more ideal for the new content to be a DLC package for Deception IV: Blood Ties instead of part of this re-released version. The new content is far from bad – it's actually great and well worth to experience, but you're still getting the same game with the same gameplay mechanics, just with a bit more goodies.

Legends of Eisenwald presents players with a game that takes place on a broad canvas without the freedom to dive deep into it. That is not a bad thing but a different approach. Sometimes that is all a player is looking for.

As for whether the DLC is worth the price of admission that will totally depend on the individual buying it.

86 / 100 - Rocket League
Jul 20, 2015

Rocket League can offer some invaluable fun and playtime. It's hard to beat solid mechanics and a sense of camaraderie you usually only get from playing sports. So gear up, head out to the pitch, and score some goals for all the kids who wished they owned Tyco RC cars years ago.

70 / 100 - Tachyon Project
Jul 20, 2015

Tachyon Project does enough things to make itself stand out against the bigger names in the genre and be competent, but falls short on doing much else to really rise above and beyond the kings of the category.

This game made me happy to see that a new RTS can still surprise and delight me to this degree, and fans of the genre and general gamers alike will no doubt enjoy this game too.

85 / 100 - PlanetSide 2
Jul 14, 2015

Planetside 2 gives you a massive and fun online shooting experience, and it's completely free. Yes, there are microtransactions, but they are very unobtrusive and do not give nearly enough of an advantage to be labelled "pay to win."

I walked away from EA's golf game years ago but Rory has brought me back in and there is reason to believe it only gets better from here.

80 / 100 - Quiplash
Jul 13, 2015

It would be a whole lot easier in a party situation to navigate all of the titles in one interface rather than two, or even more if they launch some other titles. That being said, it doesn't take away from the fun that can be had in this title, and the enormous amount of laughs, as Quiplash is a solid party game that any fan of the genre should add to their collection. - See more at: http://canadianonlinegamers.com/review/quiplash-review/#sthash.gSYUQ8vO.dpuf

Control gripes aside, I'm quite impressed with Spectra. The high-quality audio, the simple, yet surprising depth of gameplay, and the clean visuals all come together to provide a title that should provide plenty of enjoyment to those who opt to purchase it. My only concern lies in what sort of ways they can improve the game even further.

At the end of the day the question is: Would I recommend this game? I would have to say no. If you like puzzle or adventure games, Whispering Willows won't have anything new to offer you.

82 / 100 - Anna's Quest

Anna's Quest embodies the classic point & click adventure gameplay, but mixes in its own art style, unique atmosphere, and a healthy dash of black humour.

In the end, how good is Arkham Knight? It's the best Batman game you'll play and by that measure, the best superhero game to date. . . If you're anything like me, you'll have dug a small child's Batsuit out of the basement and sit glued to the TV as you attempt to save Gotham all over again. A terrific sign off, Rocksteady.

81 / 100 - Ronin
Jun 30, 2015

Ronin is an extremely challenging platformer with a hidden ton of entertaining hours within. Strategic, thoughtful missions coupled with really cool player maneuverability make it one of those games you can't stop playing until you beat it. That said, I would like to see the developer introduce a level editor for those of us who want to build our own scenarios once we conquer the final boss.

Part of the addictiveness is opening up as many characters as possible and coming back to each level to access areas you couldn't before.  As much as I enjoyed this aspect I found something new that overshadowed it, and it was playing as some of the dinosaurs in the game.  You can play as some of the famed movies dinos as part of specific levels, but you can also hunt for amber stones and open up other dinosaurs for play later.  You'll get to relive that famed scene from the original Jurassic Park movie where the T-Rex fights off a pack of Velociraptors in the park's visitor center or take on the role of a Triceratops and help Ellie and one of her friends get back to safety as a storm hits the island.  Playing as a dino is fun, and adds a bit more to the game's overall experience.

With a few finishing touches, some additional characters and a new difficulty mode, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition stands as game fans of the series and newcomers alike should immensely enjoy. While Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition may not compel you to go back and play the other games in the series, on its own DMC4 Special Edition offers plenty of value for the buck.

The Elder Scrolls Online:  Tamriel Unlimited, despite its small issues, is an excellent game and easily an essential title for any PS4 and Xbox One owner. In the name of The Nine, I urge you to add this to your collection – or face Tiber Septim's wrath!

With over 50 updates worth of content and a score of miscellaneous improvements, the value is definitely present with Payday 2: Crimewave Edition. Lack of a concrete story and various unpolished dimensions of the game lend poorly to its overall conception, however underneath its faults and beyond the connection and host issues, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition is a solid experience with tons of hours to invest in the progression system

Farming Simulator 2015 just does not offer enough to make it worth playing instead of all the great games we have available today. If you want to relax while playing videogames, there are way better games to do that – Flower and Journey come to mind as good examples.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite games when I have a few minutes or so, Badland GOTY is fairly enjoyable. Originally a mobile game, the port to consoles and computers is solid. All the little details; from the backgrounds to the audio to Clony's eyes changing to portray his mood, it all adds a lot of value to the game. The three bonus challenges in each level also adds hours of replay value, especially if you are the "100% completion" type of gamer. I will warn you though; if you don't have patience this game may challenge your gaming prowess. You will most likely die a lot and need to rethink your strategy many times, and if that isn't your thing then this game may not be for you. However, if you are looking for a game to spend hours on, have a quick ten to fifteen minutes to spare now and then, or are looking for something to play as you transition between other games, I would highly recommend Badland GOTY.
