Digital Chumps's Reviews

Mar 1, 2017

Ultimately, there is very little bad to say about SoT. It's an excellent 2D action platformer with some good RPG elements, and its balanced difficulty lets genre hacks like me struggle through while more seasoned players can still expect a good, but not overly difficult challenge.

8.8 / 10.0 - Fast RMX
Mar 1, 2017

Generally speaking, there is very little not to like about Fast RMX. If you dumped a lot of hours into Fast Racing or Fast Racing Neo, ok, maybe there's not enough content here for you to warrant a re-purchase, but I don't think anyone is seriously in that boat. Instead, what you have is a really compelling, slick racer that gets the core gameplay done right and does it in style. For Switch owners, consider it a priority release.

8.5 / 10.0 - Far Cry 5
Mar 1, 2017

Far Cry 5 offers plenty for fans of the series, with a few new fun additions. The mission design is a little underwhelming, but it's a lot of bombastic fun. Eden's Gate and Joseph Seed are the best villains in the series to date.

7.5 / 10.0 - ClusterPuck 99
Mar 1, 2017

Clusterpuck 99 is a good deal if you are playing with a large group of people. It's simple enough that anyone can pick up on it. There are a variety of maps to play from. The game seems very polished and is obvious that thought was put into it. The A.I. could be adjusted a little bit to resemble a actual human opponent more. I would not recommend this game if you are playing alone due to this.

8 / 10.0 - Daemon X Machina
Mar 1, 2017

Built from pieces thought too inscrutable to survive 2019, Daemon X Machina is sincere in its appreciation for a bygone era of mech action games. It understands the charm of assembling giant robots, the appeal of blasting exotic weapons, and the fantasy of combining both together in dozens of pleasing arrangements. Daemon X Machina revels in its esoteric reverie.

8.3 / 10.0 - SEGA AGES Shinobi

Shinobi is an all time classic and deserves another reboot as far as I’m concerned.

7 / 10.0 - NBA 2K21
Mar 1, 2017

NBA 2K21's current-gen version isn't necessarily the biggest step forward the series has taken, nor should it be expected to be. But what's there is still fun, even if it is more of the same. 2K's reliance on microtransactions still feels incredibly out of place, and the game still doesn't necessarily respect the player's time. If you're a fan of the series, chances are you're already playing the game. If you're on the fence, it may be worth waiting to see what the next-gen version offers.

9 / 10.0 - Hitman 3

Hitman 3 is both continuation and conclusion. As the five-year narrative of Agent 47's cheeky, violent death spree comes to a close, IO Interactive proves they are masters of the craft and ready to take on what lies ahead.

9 / 10.0 - Boomerang X

Boomerang X offers a specific, thrilling power fantasy of speed as players use a magical boomerang to zip around increasingly complex combat puzzles that offer little to no excess in a colorful, stylized world.

7.7 / 10.0 - Drop Dead
Feb 25, 2017

Drop Dead offers a lot of zombie-blasting action with a few notable, but not necessarily deal-breaking flaws. For fans of the old light-gun games, this is definitely worth checking out.

8.2 / 10.0 - The Mage's Tale
Feb 25, 2017

The path towards competent and engaging virtual reality games is littered with the corpses of tech demos and half-baked products. The Mage's Tale fires on many cylinders and becomes one of those mythic "must haves" not because it is simply decent but because it proves that VR has magic in it.

9 / 10.0 - I Am Setsuna

Everything from the length of the game (around 25 hours), the battle system, difficult, art, music, characters — this has proven to be a treat of an experience for me and one I would happily recommend to any Switch owner.

All in all, Super Bomberman R is one of the most interesting releases on the Switch so far. That said, unless you have a core group to play lots of local multiplayer with or expect the online community to thrive, it's hard to give it a high recommendation

9.5 / 10.0 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Feb 24, 2017

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is absolutely the best game currently available for the Nintendo Switch apart from Zelda: Breath of the Wild. For players who have never had the pleasure of experiencing the original Wii U title, this is a must-own and could be qualified as yet another killer app (even though it technically is a port). On the other hand, even if you own the original, this is the definitive Mario Kart 8 experience; in fact, it is the best Mario Kart game to date period.

Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice is a hauntingly beautiful journey through the madness of a warrior's suffering to find her true love. The story is art, the graphics are engrossing and it's truly everything it was advertised to be. Ninja Theory provided a gaming experience that is a rarity these days in the gaming world and it is not to be missed.

Rhombus of Ruin accommodates Psychonauts with a comfortable home in virtual reality. Few aspects of its composition feel conditional, granting Psychonauts' beloved motif ample room to work through PlayStation VR's intrinsic weaknesses. Interquels, typically a model disposability, don't seem so strained or contrived inside of this peculiar parallelogram.
