As you can see, for $15 you get not only a great game that deserves to sit alongside the Sonic the Hedgehog games as an equal, but a plethora of content and playtime. Spark the Electric Jester takes mechanics from two of my favorite series growing up and combines them into one fantastic game that deserves the recognition I'm giving it. It might be uglier than Freedom Planet, but otherwise, it is an all around better game.

Bursting through a wall with guns blazing has never been this fun. If only there were more unlockable content to work towards than what is included.

While The King of Fighters XIV isn't as flashy or good looking as other recently released fighters, it is jam packed with content by comparison having 50 characters playable on the disc.

If Super Metroid had pretty great procedurally-generated levels and roguelike elements, it would basically be A Robot Named Fight!

A Hat in Time is a short but great spiritual successor to Super Mario 64 and the best 3D platformer released on PC this year.

8.5 / 10.0 - Overcooked 2
Aug 7, 2018

Overcooked! 2 may not feel like a fully realized sequel, feeling mostly like more of the same with just a dash of new mechanics and online gameplay, but I suspect that's enough for most fans of the original game. I'm certainly not burnt out just yet.

8.5 / 10.0 - Destiny 2: Forsaken
Sep 10, 2018

In the grand scheme of things, if you can afford it, Destiny 2 is now easily the best shooter on the market. I absolutely love where Destiny 2 is now, and hope the Forsaken expansion is a glimpse at things to come.

8 / 10.0 - Bulb Boy
Jul 9, 2017

I'm a big fan of the art style, animation, and cute yet creepy nature of Bulb Boy that reminds me of cartoons from my childhood. Like for real, this is probably the closest thing we will ever get to a proper Courage the Cowardly Dog game, so if you have nostalgia for that show, pick this up. The two-hour length and lack of replayability will probably be a turnoff for some, but if you're like me, you're desperate for content to play on your Nintendo Switch and for $9 you could do much, much worse. Trust me on that one.

If you're a fan of Nier and looking to get your fix until the proper sequel is out, it is easy to recommend Anima. RPGs rarely hold my attention but I happily sank my time into this one no problem. There's enough quality content here that it feels like the developer or publisher is selling itself short by setting the price so low, as I would have easily been satisfied with this at double the price. It's even more impressive knowing the game was developed by three people. Just know going in that toward the end, you're going to be frustrated with some boss fights, pending the developers don't tweak them in a future update.

If you're looking for a fun twin-stick shooter that feels familiar yet fresh, Livelock is worth a purchase, especially if you have friends to play with. Now, if only it had a better title like 'Rock'em, Sock'em, Brobots'.

I have to say, even with all that problematic content, I kind of love Gal-Gun: Double Peace not only for daring to be as stupid and perverse as it is with no excuses, but also for being one of the most content-rich and replayable games in its genre. If you can overlook (or enjoy) the cringeworthy perverseness found here, you'll find an enjoyable little shooter. Those looking to be turned on will probably be better served elsewhere unless you have a young schoolgirl fetish. I don't see how anyone could find the content found here sexually arousing, but some people also like to suck on toes, play with poop, or wear diapers, so what do I know? What you do in our own time is your business, so who cares if I think you're creepy? You shouldn't, you weirdo.

I can easily recommend Quadrilateral Cowboy, one of my favorite indie games so far this year, to anyone looking for an adventure game that brings something that feels fresh and new to the table and leaves you feeling smart as you've become a hacking god, or in this case goddess.

8 / 10.0 - Poi
Mar 17, 2017

Poi is a competent love letter to the 3D Mario games we know and love that manages to give players a nice taste of nostalgia while still having its own charm. If you're hankering for a good 3D platformer, look no further. Your move, Yooka-Laylee, Hat in Time, and Super Mario Odyssey.
