I'm an enthusiast of handhelds, visual novels and Japanese RPGs.

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II decides to take a more experimental [gameplay] exploration instead of making the most out of what was already consolidated in its predecessors. Unfortunately, the end result is more frustrating than ideal, making this game not hit the same quality of previous titles, even with its interesting story and good audiovisual production.

Omurice Next Time is a simple but competent work. By representing the microcosm of a couple with no big ambitions, Griffin Cyan gives us a very comfortable and fun slice-of-life. For anyone interested in a dose of cuteness and warmth, this is an easy recommendation.

Another Code: Recollection is an unexpected pack made with lots of care to retell Ashley Mizuki Robbins's journey. Here we get a thrilling mystery and intuitive puzzles, making this game duo a great entry point to get to know Japanese adventures and making sure this piece of videogame history doesn't stay stuck in the past as only a memory for those who experienced it.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy may not be the high point of the series so far, but it is a great representative of its charisma and a very important part of its story, adding curious mechanical elements to the lawyers' experience. With quality of life elements and extras from the Museum, the story of Apollo, Phoenix and Athena features captivating characters in bizarre cases and is much easier to enjoy in the new collection.

Criminal Border 1st Offence offers a unique blend of engaging narrative and complex character development, set against the backdrop of a digital drug saga. The visual novel excels in subverting gender stereotypes and presenting a rich, glitch-inspired aesthetic with a fitting digital soundtrack. However, the game's heavy editing for certain platforms and its niche appeal for adult audiences may limit its accessibility. Despite these drawbacks, its deep exploration of human desires, moral dilemmas, and the unforeseen consequences of technology make it a thought-provoking title. Overall, it sets a strong foundation for its sequels, promising a continued exploration of dark and introspective themes.

Uchikano - Living With My Lovers is a simple visual novel but it manages to deliver exactly what it sets out to do with quality. It's a story about people that end up creating a home together and it respects the humanity of its characters with the many detail layers. With a lighthearted and fun plot, it's a pleasant read and an easy recommendation for someone looking for a simple entry in the genre.

Ikkarus and the Prince of Sin combines simulation and visual novel to present a curious fantasy experience, but it unfortunately fails in showing quality in any of its parts. The end result is disfunctional and souless, and the wonky Portuguese translation hinders rather than helps.

With a good dose of humor, MOTESOLO shows how a blind date can bring to light many embarrassing things to people who have social issues and are desperate for the opportunity to connect with someone. Though many technical aspects weaken the experience, this is a curious FMV game that's worth giving a try if the premise appeals to you.

I begrudgingly must say A Long Journey to an Uncertain End isn't a game I can recommend. It brings a story filled with fun characters and a universe I loved getting to know and the gameplay concept could have made a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, the lack of polish and care when transposing this adventure to the Switch impacted the full package too significantly to let it[s issues] slide.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! -Pirates of the Disturbance- is a good example of its genre, featuring charismatic characters and a well-organized plot whose details are sprinkled across multiple routes. The game is more inviting for those who already know the original material and want to experience a little more of the interactions between Catarina and her potential boyfriends, but it can also be easily enjoyed by those who are not yet familiar with the franchise.

8.5 / 10.0 - TEVI
Dec 10, 2023

TEVI mixes metroidvania and action RPG in a high level experience on Switch. CreSpirit's new game is easily recommendable for both newcomers and veterans in the genre, offering solid variety to skills and explorable locations, as well as a good challenge in the enemy attack patterns.

In Stars and Time explores a curious concept of time loop at the end of an RPG journey. The result is a curious mini-RPG where the high quality of the character writing is the high point of the experience. For people who like experimental works in the genre, this is an easy recommendation.

Risk of Rain Returns is a highly attractive package with a good variety of elements to explore and a customizable difficulty that gives the player the tools to adapt their experience as they please. Though the game elements' visibility leaves a lot to be desired, especially on Switch's Handheld Mode, this is still an easy recommendation for those looking for an experience in the genre.

Wizard with a Gun manages to make a good combination of different genres and offer a pleasant experience. Although it could be richer in content and explore the possibilities of combat in more depth, the final balance of the game is positive, making it an easy recommendation for those who are curious about this mix.

9 / 10.0 - Twofold
Nov 23, 2023

Twofold is a deeply humane and touching visual novel about the pleasures and pains of interpersonal relationships during our brief passage through life. It's a beautiful way to remember the subtle beauty of what's essential to us and invisible to the eyes.

As the first release of the series in Portuguese, The Jackbox Party Pack 10 offers a very good and diverse experience. The dubbing and the addition of Brazilian cultural elements are well-placed resources that help make the experience feel as natural as a good party game should be. Brazil is expected to receive invitations to have fun in the coming years as well.

9 / 10.0 - Thirsty Suitors
Nov 14, 2023

Thirsty Suitors is a pot full of ideas which altogether manage to represent Jala's life experience. With vibrant characters and a well handled story, the title is much more than the sum of its parts. It's a celebration of life, all its failings and new starts.

7 / 10.0 - Fashion Dreamer
Nov 9, 2023

Fashion Dreamer is a fashion game with many options for customizing characters and clothes, but exploration quickly becomes repetitive. Especially for those who have played the developer's previous works, it doesn't take long to wish the title had other content to break up the monotony.

Virche Evermore -ErroR: Salvation- presents itself as another great pick among the English-released otome games on Switch. With a darker perspective than usual, the title interestingly discusses the sensible theme of death in a society full of issues. The result is compelling and an easy recommendation for fans of visual novels in general.

Slay the Princess is a deep and impactful visual novel that manages to discuss the subjective nature of existence in a sensible fashion. While its violent aspects may not be indicated for some people, this is a very high quality experience when combining all of its elements.
