Critic Reviews for Touhou Luna Nights
A respectable metroidvania, Touhou Luna Nights brings gameplay, exploration, and combat in the guise of the Touhou universe to all fans of the genre.

Touhou Luna Nights takes the visual style of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and mixes in a unique blend of puzzle-based exploration and combat to create one brilliant Metroidvania. I highly recommend it to any fan of the genre.
There are many Metroidvanias, and they will not be lacking in the future. Well, Touhou Luna Nights abandons his genre in video games based on the bullet hell shooter, but not so much, no. Because the precision, the action, the timing, the rhythm and those situations and bosses that scare the fear when seeing them, are still here. But with a head, patience and a steady hand, they give a satisfying and challenging 2D side game. The Handmaid's Tale, stopping time and throwing hundreds of daggers, floating with our apron.

Despite not having the replayability factor, Touhou Luna Nights is a metroidvania that delivers frantic action from start to finish, without leaving aside the original game on which it was based. With a history of its own, there is no need to get to know Touhou in depth to take advantage of this mind-blowing spin-off that can please both experienced and novice players.

Creating a great Metroidvania is no small feat. You need a solid progression system, challenging map and enemy design, and a way of rewarding the player for exploring the entire map. Touhou Luna Nights does this and so much more! It does fall short in regards to its balance and certain systems, but this is a quality title that you could compare to other greats in the genre like… well, like Metroid and Castlevania. Even if you aren’t a fan of the massive Touhou series, the game’s quality stands on its own, with the source material serving as the cherry on top for fans of the series! If you’re looking for a new Metroidvania to play, Touhou Luna Nights should be high on your list!
Leave it to indie games to keep finding ways to push the “generic” genre experience of something so well-known as the Metroidvania in at least slightly new directions...
Even though Touhou Luna Nights is not that new in the eyes of players, it is always worth celebrating the arrival of a good title on all platforms. To enjoy this game, you just need to dedicate a few sincere hours, and you don't even need to have in-depth knowledge of the entire Touhou Project's complex narrative to enjoy the environment and characters.
