Wii Fit U's variety of exercises and routines are fun, fast, and most importantly, they work.
If you're interested in losing weight, Wii Fit U is definitely worth your time. Fans of the original Wii Fit will definitely notice some overlapping content, but it brings enough new to the table to, if nothing else, get you active and moving in your living room.
Wii Fit U is too lightweight to be a contender
Featuring a wealth of new and exciting activities — many of which have been built around the Wii U's bespoke functionality — Wii Fit U is the best title in the franchise to date. While the exercises it offers still aren't intensive enough to replace traditional exercise, it's nevertheless an entertaining way for players of all fitness levels and ages to be more active and conscious of the importance of keeping fit. With that said, it's surprising just how demanding some of the activities can be at times.Perhaps the most impressive thing about Wii Fit U, however, is that it effectively uses the Wii U GamePad to create unique experiences — something which many Wii U games have so far struggled to do.
Bringing forward all of what made Wii Fit so great in the first place, then adding new features and the Wii Fit Meter means that Wii Fit U is an excellent package designed to get friends and family playing games while getting fitter. How can that be a bad thing? It can be a bit pricey if you don't already own some of the hardware (Wii U, Balance Board), but this is an example of something succeeding in exactly what it sets out to do, and sometimes that's enough. Bare in mind, however, this is not a full substitute for a real exercise routine and gym workout.
There's not a lot that the Wii U can really do to improve the Wii Fit experience but this is still a useful entry point for the exercise averse.
Meanwhile Wii Fit U's mini-games are fun, but still suffer from being single-player/non-simultaneous multiplayer and there just isn't that much new stuff. If you're looking for something that will keep you motivated and get you moving, it could definitely work and the Fit Meter is an extra level of motivation, but if Wii Fit didn't do it before then I'm not sure it will work for you now. The good part is that the game is free until the end of the month so you can find out for yourself.
Wii Fit U really does take advantage of the software and hardware available, even if there are a lot of individual devices to keep track of. The full Wii Fit U experience is currently available from the Nintendo eShop on a 31 day free trial until the end of January, so there really is no excuse not to try what is another hugely comprehensive and highly entertaining fitness game.
Wii Fit U adds a pedometer, lots of activities, and a handful of other useful features that add up to making the sequel to Wii Fit worthwhile as a fitness tool.
While you can break a sweat doing some of the mini games, many take too much time with explanations and are too short to leave you feeling worked out.
While it would be nice if more difficult exercises were readily available from that start and if routines didn't feature a jerky start-stop-start progression, Wii Fit U remains the best exercise game I've ever played.
Although it doesn't serve as a replacement for regular exercise, Wii Fit U is probably the best game in its genre, and with the existence of the Fit Meter, is a great way to keep track of and accompany daily activities. There are all sorts of activities included in this package, meaning that there is something for the whole family to enjoy, all whilst staying in shape! To those who are still using Wii Fit regularly, it is also possible to transfer data over to Wii Fit U, so maybe now is a great time to upgrade!
While the majority of Wii Fit U isn't as "hardcore" as some fitness buffs may like, it does provide an enormously friendly, approachable entry point into the world of exercise for those who may have struggled with motivation in the past. Featuring a swathe of enjoyable games and a wealth of helpful advice, it's a great starting point on a journey towards a leaner, meaner you.
