Critic Reviews for What the Dub?!
Reviewer's Note: We liked What The Dub?! so much, we wanted you to have a chance to try it out for yourself in this review! There's a missing chunk of text in the review below that we want you to fill in with your own review dub in the comments! What The Dub?! is the perfect blend of party games and bad movie nights. It's a relatively simple idea with endless hilarity unlocked by each group of people that plays it. Wide Right Interactive has mined the depths of places no human should ever go to bring you some of the best prompts and most awkward footage to ever be recorded to film. By sticking to the established party game formula, it's easy for anyone to pick up and play, whether they're a gamer or not. Whether your a party game fanatic, or just venturing forth into the world of what party games can offer, What The Dub?! is an essential addition to any party games collection.
What The Dub?! is an enjoyable party game that is great for giving everyone a chance to show off their comedic chops. The game wears its inspiration on its sleeve, but that doesn't matter, as there is plenty of room for titles with fresh ideas. The lack of variety is an issue, but that's offset by its low price. What The Dub?! is a great game to break out with friends to have a few laughs, even when playing online.
Although the improv gameplay of What the Dub?! is somewhat basic and repetitive, it presents numerous opportunities for MST3K-style hilarity. You don't need to be a fan of movies to enjoy this party game; you just need to be quick-witted (or have funny friends).
In the end, What The Dub?! has only one trick. While that trick can be and is a lot of fun to mess around with, it wears out its welcome a bit too quickly. Although text-to-speech is a great idea and sound effects are a worthy addition, the b-movie clips feel like they're on repeat after a while, and the pacing can leave you in the lurch. I hope that the game can get some additional support, and with some additional footage maybe over time it can improve, but as of now it feels a bit hollow.
What the Dub? is a good party game. Playing with friends and family to dub over B-Movie film clips is short stints of amusement that you can come back to when you tire of the Jack Box experience. It's cheap enough to justify and funny enough to enjoy.
What The Dub?! isn’t the sort of game that will keep you entertained for hours on end. But it is the sort of thing you’ll pull out for half an hour at a party or gathering, and have a laugh with. With over 300 movie clips included in the game, it’ll be a while until you start seeing repeats, too. The more ridiculous or rude you get, the more hilarity is likely to ensue. Needless to say, if you’re a fan of Jackbox’s games, then What The Dub?! is worth checking out.
What the Dub is a great little party game in the tradition of the Jackbox series, and it will definitely see a lot of play at my house thanks to my own predilections.
Party games don't get much simpler than What The Dub?! yet its hilarious moments make it a must-have for those who love to laugh.
