Critic Reviews for Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye
A splendid, moody elaboration of what makes Outer Wilds so special.
Echoes of the Eye is a wonderful return to the clockwork solar system of Outer Wilds, even if its occasional horror game sections aren't quite as interesting as what came before.
Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye intelligently builds upon the strong base of Outer Wilds, while only stumbling when trying drastically new ideas.
Although the quality of the puzzles remains the same this unexpected expansion certainly isn't just more of the same, with an unexpected new survival horror element.
Some of the new mechanics like the rafting or manipulation of light are most welcome. So while Echoes gives up parts of what made Outer Wilds so great in the grand exploration, Echoes of the Eye is a solid companion piece to the base game. I just wish I didn’t spend nearly all of it away from my spaceship.
Everything you wanted from an Outer Wilds DLC in a package you never thought to expect. Echoes of the Eye puts its own twists on the base game's formula without a single misstep.
Echoes of the Eye’s surprising deviations wind up enhancing both the main game and its own identity.
The announcement for a DLC to Outer Wilds left many people asking questions about the nature of its story. With Outer Wilds already feeling so complete on its own, players wondered what more a DLC could add to this world. How can you give an answer when there isn't a question?
