Switch Galaxy Ultra Reviews
Switch Galaxy Ultra provides a thrilling sense of speed, but a lack of meaningful incentives dulls the fun.
Switch Galaxy Ultra is proof that a mobile concept doesn't always translate well into a console experience. There are some modest "twitch" sessions to take part in here, but with very little diversity to go around, and even less worthwhile content to come back to. Worse yet, the price is jacked up extremely high, and the promise of multiplayer competition is dwindled due to the fact that, well, there is no competition. For a game with the word Galaxy in its title, there doesn't seem to be much to explore here. And that's a shame.
Switch Galaxy Ultra is an evolution of the previous titles from Atomicom, with 60 FPS, impressive visual improvements, and an intriguing comic book-style narrative sequences. The lack of online presence is disappointing, but with over 50 levels there is plenty of game to play through. However, if you hit the progression wall thanks to Tantalum, you may lose your drive to finish all of the levels.
It's certainly not light on content, but it is light in variety.
Aesthetically Switch Galaxy Ultra is quite pretty for a 3D game on this sort of budget… it's a fairly trippy sight when you see the track before you curving away into space and up to a orbital dockyard miles and miles away
Switch Galaxy Ultra is a very niche experience, but for those who loved Wipeout or the idea of moving fast across space lanes, it can deliver challenging moments and very fun levels.
The fast-paced action is perfectly executed while there is enough content to last players for a long time. It is a shame that the tantalum system ruins the story mode by making it a monotonous grind.
