While I can't say I'll reach for this over its predecessors, Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! Is a good (replayable) entry more often than not, and recommended. Younger players and families who can enjoy local co-op should have this higher on their wishlist than solo players who might wait for a sale (or update with more online options). The new Puzzle Bobble vs. Space Invaders is a sizable draw!

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! offers something for both young and adult players. The basic concept is simple and easy for everyone to grasp. However, over time, it presents a decent challenge, allowing you to choose more difficult levels that truly test your intellect, speed, and reflexes. It is a pleasant puzzle game that fills your leisure time well, with few shortcomings - occasional imbalance in difficulty, a lack of significant new features, annoying character voices, and some subpar sound effects.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble is basically more of the tried and true formula that has been going on for the past thirty years. Despite that somewhat dismissive statement, don’t call that criticism. The franchise has tried to reinvent itself in the recent past with a 3D iteration, and it didn’t work very well. Returning back to its more successful format, with just a few additions here and there to pretty much justify its existence as a brand new, commercially-available product, was the right choice.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble is therefore a section that neatly ticks off all the options you would expect from a new Puzzle Bobble game. But the new additions make the game feel a lot harder and more rushed than before. The game contains tons of levels, but offers little extra around it to give you a nice goal to go through it all. With only two modes, you have little to choose from. It remains Puzzle Bobble and the formula is still entertaining after all these years, but it manages to surprise or innovate little.

Decades of sub-par copycats haven't dulled the appeal of Puzzle Bobble and while there's too few new ideas this is an effective reboot for what remains a classic match-three puzzler.

Puzzle Bobble: Everybubble! does what the series does very well, smartly adding new ways to play, keeping the campaign fresh, but also providing enough content away from that to keep you invested and engaged. Accuracy is a little bit off using the aim at times but this is as close to a definitive Puzzle Bobble experience as you’ll find, with an exciting looking global ranking mode and a multiplayer inclusion which, when it works, it does surprisingly well.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble is a competent Puzzle Bobble product, with the expected features that offer up exactly what you’d want out of the franchise. It’s quick and easy to get into, with no fluff whatsoever. The added gameplay features are definitely neat and help add a wrinkle to the already excellent color-matching puzzling that’s worked for decades. If you have yet to play one of these on the Switch and are looking to get your fill, Puzzle Bobble Everybubble will surely get you sorted.

Bust of Move Everybubble! (sorry, Puzzle Bobble) is a solid return to a much-loved arcade puzzler. If you have been away from the series for a while, this is a welcome return to see an old friend. If you’re new, this is a great jumping-on point if you’re looking for one of the best arcade puzzlers in the genre. A hearty challenge to enjoy alone or with friends. It falters a little for me by its lacklustre Versus mode, which doesn’t quite recapture the thrill of the arcade games. Still, the experience was enough to bubble up all the warm moments I have had playing previous entries in the series with my wife. And in time, I hope to share this with my boy. Now, for the love of all that is bubbly, can we have a new Rainbow Islands game Taito?
