Samurai Warriors 4 DX is the best version of the ten-year-old game. The performance is smooth with a stable framerate on both PC and Steam Deck. The large amount of included DLC is a nice incentive for those who are only familiar with the vanilla version or simply missed out on the original when it arrived. Most of the DLC consists of cosmetic items such as new costumes or custom character creation parts, though. Overall, this is a great port of Samurai Warriors 4, but unless the inclusion of all the DLC is a major point of interest, there isn't much reason to revisit this game for those who already have the original.

: It might seem like a classic case of quantity overshadowing quality, but in reality Samurai Warriors 4 DX is a decent conversion of one of the most popular chapters among Musou fans, enhanced by a hefty dose of DLC. It shows its age in several respects but retains an exciting and entertaining soul, which will finally delight those who have been longing for the game's arrival on PC since 2014.

As its own game, Samurai Warriors 4 is a really fun experience filled with absurd characters, impractical weapons, and lots of button mashing, but as an updated port, Samurai Warriors 4 DX is simply “fine”, which may not be enough to justify its price tag. It really is one of the better Koei Tecmo ports in recent memory, but then again the bar is not incredibly high.

SAMURAI WARRIORS 4 DX doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it didn’t need to. This a classic style Musou game with a ton of content. I barely scratched the surface of what is here. You could easily put 60 or more hours in this one unlocking everything in Chronicle Mode and doing all of the storylines in Story Mode. If you have never played SAMURAI WARRIORS 4 or are looking for a complete edition, this is a great way to go. Fans looking for a good Musou title to kill some time with can’t go wrong with this one either at the $49.99 price tag.

Samurai Warriors 4 DX is a solid Musou option on PC, offering the level of fun expected from a title in the series. With a good variety of content, the game should please fans of the genre who had not yet enjoyed Samurai Warriors 4, although it already has several defects that should not be ignored in a new release in 2024.

Samurai Warriors 4 DX is a game that offers a lot for your money. With its awesome graphics, full controller support, character creator option, and three game modes, it provides a rich and immersive gaming experience. However, it does have a few areas that could use improvements, such as the graphics settings, mount choice, and the clarity of when the game has been saved. Despite these drawbacks, the game’s strengths far outweigh its weaknesses, making it a worthwhile Samurai Warriors port and offering a lot for your money and time.

Ultimately, Samurai Warriors 4 DX is one of the most complete experiences in the franchise, and it came with a pretty decent port to Steam. Although not the most customizable graphic experience, it stays true to what made it so great and would be a great acquisition at a discounted price.

While the fighting and combat aren’t the worst, in an era where players expect value from their purchases, Samurai Warriors 4 DX falls short, offering little beyond its initial premise. While the game may hold nostalgic appeal for fans of the series, it makes it difficult to recommend as a worthwhile addition to the modern PC gaming library, and if you wanna play the game, it’s probably a better idea to pick up the non-deluxe 2014 version used as it’s the same experience anyways.

Is there a reason to pick Samurai Warriors 4 DX up if its sequel has been readily available on PC for the past couple of years? Yes. That is, if you’re into Musou-style catharsis. It might not be as pretty or polished as its sequel, but it makes up for it with a lot (and boy, do I mean a LOT) of content.
