The War Within isn't a groundbreaking, surprising, or original expansion, but it's a good jumping-off point for something bigger. It uses subtle improvements to smooth out and tighten up World of Warcraft's traditional gameplay in all the right places, gently evolving it and making it feel more familiar and welcoming than ever, for veterans and newcomers alike.

Despite its shockingly short story, World of Warcraft: The War Within is the most confident and slick Blizzard's MMO has been in years.

The War Within is not a revolution, but a carefully planned evolution leading the game in a new direction. It’s impossible to predict wether World of Wacraft will reclaim its MMO throne. The game now is very good but only time will tell if Blizzard is capable of keeping it this way.

An absolute added value are the Hero Talents where every class and build feels different. It has been a long time since I had so much fun with my Restoration Shaman. In any case, we have become very curious about what the Worldsoul Saga will bring and how the current story of World of Warcraft will be brought to an end. For now, we can still enjoy The War Within and we log in every day with great pleasure. Blizzard has created a very successful expansion here and is recommended for new players and old fans.

World of Warcraft: The War Within retains the good quality and proven principles from the last expansion and still brings a few unique new features. However, it remains to be seen whether these will remain the same. At this point in time, it can be said that the game has apparently not become any worse, but on the contrary has even improved in some areas. For example, the crafting system has been further refined and there are numerous short dialogs from the protagonists that you can listen to between quests in the campaign. This makes the story a little more accessible. This is because it often feels like working through and is less inviting to be experienced and discovered. In this respect, the game lacks mystery and mystery. The campaign is sometimes told too obviously and there are not enough exciting twists and turns. Furthermore, the side quests are unfortunately still not set to music and we have no choice but to read the texts. This is a shame, because a soundtrack would be entirely appropriate and, in my opinion, would do a lot to help players experience a little more of the story. I think there are a lot of exciting stories in WoW, it's just the way they are told that could be improved overall.

In conclusion, The War Within is currently one of the most comprehensive and satisfying expansions, at the time of its launch, of World of Warcraft in recent years. Only time will tell if Activision Blizzard will be able to keep the bar high.

In regards to its content, The War Within is the best expansion for WoW to date. The story is fantastic, the music incredible, and on top of the group-based content fans have come to expect, from raids to battlegrounds to arena battles and mythic dungeons, the new Delves finally offer a great opportunity for smaller teams, lone wolves and casual players to make meaningful progress, get stronger, master their class and receive powerful gear. Warbands make powering up and gearing new characters easier than ever. Granted, these are all features, which other MMOs have been offering for years in some form or another, but if your heart beats for Azeroth, you may not be interested in any alternatives. Issues such as deleted guild banks and balancing problems with the crafting system, classes, hero talents and delves are a source of frustration. Still, now is a great time to go on a(nother) trip to Azeroth, even or especially when you don't have as much time to play as you did 20 years ago.

World of Warcraft: The War Within gave us a promise of the best story that Chris Metzen has come up with that will draw back all the players who left because of the boredom of Shadowlands and Dragonflight, but ultimately under-delivers on that promise with a short story, a focus on anyone but the player, and changing bad gameplay mechanic names to hide repeated content.

I can confidently say WoW is back. Well, it was back in Dragonflight, but it’s extra back now. Not only does The War Within make the player experience better with great additions like Warbands and Follower Dungeons, but it also demonstrates that Blizzard isn’t afraid to keep refining good ideas like Hero Talents or reworking those that may have failed previously and molded them into nuggets of fun and flavor like Delves. If this is just the start of what to expect with Warcraft in the era of The Worldsoul Saga, then I’m eager to stick around and see where these new adventures on Azeroth take us next.

World of Warcraft: The War Within feels like a return to the best of the game in many of its sections. The new expansion has a lot of successes in the gameplay, but it shines especially in the artistic and narrative facet. A more than promising start to the new era of this MMORPG.
