It's a sad state for dinosaurs in video games when this shoddily-constructed, and almost irredeemably shallow, shooter is almost the only sign of a T-Rex we've had all year.

Despite its technical problems and some missing features, Primal Carnage is far from being a bad game. For an independently developed title it looks pretty stunning, even if some of the animations are slightly off. However, as much fun as I've had messing around with the various classes and game modes, Primal Carnage simply doesn't have the lasting appeal I look for in a multiplayer shooter. If played with friends, it will serve up several hours of grin-inducing fun but beyond that very little else.

Don't buy this. Like, just don't. Not even out of curiosity. Don't do it. Stop thinking about it. Just don't bother.

Primal Carnage: Extinction feels like a great concept which has just not had enough "shine" put into the end product. Basic menus and average production values could be forgiven if the gameplay was killer, but dinosaurs deserve to be more badass and exciting than this. So while there is some dino fun to be had here, this is a game that will likely be left on the virtual shelf and left to turn extinct.

Unfortunately, even cool moments and great set pieces aren't enough to save any game from a serious lack of depth.

There is definitely some fun to be had in Primal Carnage: Extinction, especially on the dinosaurs' side. There is a nice selection of modes, but when the end result is almost always the same it can get boring. Circle Five Studios has a fantastic premise for a game, it just needed some more time to incubate before it saw the light of day.

Primal Carnage: Extinction doesn't overly satisfy, but it at least gives you the opportunity to take control of a selection of legendary dinosaurs. There's not much depth to be found, and although it is not a terrible game, there's only enough here to hold your attention for a few hours or so. Unfortunately, this one is just another entry into the already well stocked pile of mediocre dinosaur games.

Just don't buy. If you like the concept maybe buy Evolve instead.

The Primal Carnage series may have had legs for a few years on the PC, where it's secured a small but loyal fan base, but on the PS4, I don't think it will be too long until becomes extinct

A simple, but fun, FPS that could have been so much better. The dinosaurs are certainly fun, but it won't take long for you to grow tired of the game at large.
