Nocturne

Critic Reviews for Nocturne
Nocturne aims for an ambitious fusion of sci-fi storytelling and rhythm strategy, but the grindy combat and superficial RPG systems prevent it from coming together effectively, making it difficult to recommend.
Nocturne is my biggest surprise of the year. An outstanding story about the search for one’s own identity, brotherhood, friendship, and the struggle for society. The game also features one of the most diverse soundtracks of the year, which nonetheless blends seamlessly into a perfectly harmonious mix of musical styles. Combined with the stunning visuals, I was treated to something truly exceptional. Games like this don’t come along very often.

Nocturne manages a tight narrative in its ten-hour run, and the beat-rhythm aspect both helps to pad out the relatively small number of mobs in the game and keep things interesting. While the concept may sound like an odd mash-up, genre-wise, Pracy Studios makes it work.
Nocturne is a short RPG that shines most when you let the story and music lead the way. The combat is flexible enough for players of any skill level, and every big fight has its own personality. Exploration and the RPG systems could use more polish, but at around ten hours, the game ends before those problems wear you down.
