Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a simple yet fun simulation game that fully doubles down on the bizarre and provides players with an island canvas to create nearly anything they can imagine. How much enjoyment one can get out of the game completely hinges on your own creativity, and those willing to invest their time will simply have a better experience. It is a slow burn, however, and players wanting instant gratification will not find it here. Instead, Living the Dream encourages players to stop by each day and live this life with the Miis themselves, simply enjoying the ride.

Living the Dream is a conflicting offering from Nintendo that teeters between downright charming and utterly repetitive. Most players will likely find themselves amused at its absurd dialogue and distinctly Japanese humour, which is easily one of the series’ greatest strengths. But once you begin to hear the same lines repeated over and over, their novelty wears off quickly. For a life simulation game to have so little variety in its content means you’re unlikely to return to your island after the first couple of weeks. So enjoy its ridiculous fun for a short time, not a long time.

Living the Dream is the best the Tomodachi series has ever been. The inclusive relationship overhaul is a landmark addition, and the Island Builder and Palette House give creative tools that go well beyond anything in the 3DS original.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream fully embraces absurdity and nonsensical humor, expanding on everything that made the franchise win over players on the Nintendo 3DS. With a robust Mii creation system that truly unleashes creativity, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is definitely the most chaotic and entertaining life simulator of recent years.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream brings back Nintendo’s strangest and most unpredictable life simulator after a long break. The game thrives on absurd humor, chaotic social interactions and the sheer joy of watching Miis behave in ways no one asked for. While the lack of online features are a bummer, the core experience remains irresistibly funny and endlessly surprising. If you’re willing to embrace the nonsense, Living the Dream is one of the most entertaining social sandboxes on Switch.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a pleasant and much-anticipated surprise for a gentle series that had been dormant. Its small additions to improve gameplay, such as more identity options and enhanced environments, are very welcome and make all the difference in appreciating the little things in virtual life.

The game has no clear goal, progression is slow, and you’ll quickly see everything it has to offer. However, if you’re a creative type who enjoys Nintendo’s humor with a touch of chaos, likes The Sims, and wants to play god on a virtual island, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is definitely worth trying.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream stays true to and builds on the series’ brand of zany simulations, relaxed management, and powerful creative tools. While it rejects evolving into a meatier experience, it’s a charming diversion full of possibilities for laid-back gamers.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream tries not to stray too far from the 3DS formula, but it's far more interactive and doesn't rely solely on menus. Its first-person perspective draws the player closer to their Mii's life, although the repetitive sequences do eventually dampen the initial spark. Even so, it's a game with hilarious and equally bizarre touches, extensive customization options, and, with a good choice of Mii, it's sure to bring smiles and laughter to its players.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is going to be the one game I’ll be coming back to daily during my breaks and lunches. Watching some Mii become friends, making games that make you ask “I beg your finest pardon!?” If you have friends who get the game and you want to bring over your Mii, you’ll need to be near one another. Or you can have the choices they made about their Mii and copy their choices. There are a few things that annoyed me about this version of the game: the lack of visiting friend’s islands or exchanging Miis unless you are next to one another. We’ve had examples that Nintendo can do it, but just choose not to do it. Sure they’ll be the same, but they’ll be completely different in their code. Now go out there and create the island life Animal Crossing wouldn’t give you! I give Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream the Thumb Culture Gold Award!
