Halo: Campaign Evolved Reviews
For anyone with Game Pass it may be worth the data to download and play with friends, but to anyone else (including PlayStation faithfuls who have been denied one of gaming’s greats for too long) it’s hard to recommend when the original is packaged with its sequels for notably less.
The seminal 2001 sci-fi shooter returns in a solid remake that mostly succeeds in modernizing Master Chief's memorable first outing.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a beautifully modernised version of an iconic adventure. The stunning graphics and smooth gameplay ensure that entertainment and challenge go hand in hand perfectly. A clever story, plenty of variety in enemies and environments, plus a brilliant soundtrack and audio, made my first encounter with Halo a glorious one. It’s only the many tighter, linear sections and the backtracking that make you realise this gem is already a quarter of a century old. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer, this FPS guarantees hours of uncompromising shooting fun.

One or two little issues you can overlook, but there are just so many here in Halo: Campaign Evolved, it's like the Flood.
If you’ve never experienced Halo before, this remake is a great place to start. However, as a longtime fan of the series, I don’t feel it lived up to the expectations we have for a Halo game.

The first installment of the Halo series is considered the jewel made by Xbox and the primary reason for Xbox's success. What this legendary entry truly deserved was a remake worthy of the game's historical status, and to fulfill this entitlement, Halo Campaign Evolved was released. It preserved the spirit of the original game while bringing improvements to the narrative style, environment design, vehicle handling, along with high quality in gameplay and graphics, the addition of usable weapons, and extra missions to pave the way for the game's story. However, the game was flawed by some issues such as repetitive level design in indoor areas, technical issues, and problems in cinematic cutscenes.

Halo: Campaign Evolved proves the original's timeless combat still holds up on Unreal Engine 5, but with the Master Chief Collection readily available, this campaign-only remake feels more like a technical test run than an essential trip back to Halo.

In all, it’s a worthwhile trip back to the original Halo installation. Halo Studios captured the vibes for this one, reminding us why this was so successful in the first place.
Halo: Campaign Evolved revitalizes the original with smart updates, new lore, and stunning visuals, creating the strongest and most complete way to experience Halo’s beginnings.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a more than valid entry point for anyone who never had the chance to discover the series at launch. The visual reconstruction is nearly flawless, and the audio manages to move you without relying on nostalgia

Halo: Campaign Evolved scores more than it misses. It stays true to the source material with meaningful quality-of-life improvements, stunning visuals, and fun new content. But not every modernization feels necessary, and some gameplay tweaks slightly weaken the careful design that made the original so enduring. It's still a solid campaign, a fun co-op adventure, and a reminder of why Halo still matters all these years later.
Halo: Campaign Evolved succeeds in delivering an enjoyable shooter experience with its engaging story and beautiful artistic direction that stays true to the series’ identity, although it suffers from technical issues and a lack of polish in some aspects of the game

Halo: Campaign Evolved delivers an impressive visual leap forward for the series, but it's a safe remake that will give fans a nostalgic kick and newcomers a good entry point into the franchise.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is far more than a simple remaster; it is a masterclass in how to modernize a beloved classic without losing its core identity. While some of the original level design choices, such as the repetitive corridors of the Library, inevitably show their age, these historical flaws are completely overshadowed by the breathtaking visual overhaul and the stellar audio restoration. The bold introduction of modern gameplay mechanics, like sprinting and vehicle hijacking, injects a fresh, dynamic rhythm into the iconic "30 seconds of fun," finding its absolute peak in the three hours of brand-new, masterfully crafted campaign missions. Ultimately, this project successfully bridges the gap between generations, standing as the definitive way to experience Master Chief's legendary first adventure.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is an honest remake that updates Halo without losing its soul. The strong combat, meaningful new content, and excellent replayability outweigh the handful of technical issues and minor design inconsistencies.
It was a daring gamble to offer the Xbox community a campaign of a Halo released at the beginning of the 21st century, but it must be admitted that the result is convincing. The developers managed to keep the Halo spirit while improving the pace and mechanics of the game, keeping intact the pleasure of being able to rediscover the game at 2 locally, even more via online gaming. It lacks the PvP in multi, but otherwise everything is there for the new and the old of the old.

Halo: Campaign Evolved might not redefine or even reinvigorate the franchise, but it’s hard to argue that this isn’t the best way to experience the original game.
Thanks to its new missions, Halo: Campaign Evolved gives longtime fans something fresh while expanding the wider Halo universe.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a fantastic PS5 introduction to Master Chief and a rewarding return for longtime fans. I loved its focused science-fiction story with expanded content, pulse-pounding firefights, all-new gameplay, and detailed Unreal Engine 5 presentation. Halo Studios has created an excellent way to revisit the series' origin, and PlayStation gamers now have a strong reason to finally join up with Master Chief on the ring.
Halo: Campaign Evolved generally delivers on its promise as a love letter to longtime fans and a gateway for newcomers. Its expanded missions, cinematic presentation, and modern mechanics breathe new life into a 25‑year‑old classic. It is surreal to see the game launch on the PS5, and whether this is the first and last Halo title on PlayStation has yet to be determined, but it is still historic nonetheless.
