Defense Grid 2 is the kind of game that can be played casually or for long sittings, as it thrives off that "just one more level!" addiction.

All told, Defense Grid 2 packs in a vast amount of stuff, all with a great finish. While I'm hard-pressed to recommend many indie games sporting a Steam price of $24.99 ($29.99 for the Special Edition), Hidden Path has likely put enough into this one to make it worth it. It's quite the jump from 2008's Defense Grid: The Awakening and the tidy $9.99, but with the great slew of game modes, phenomenally polished content, and great replay value, a fan of the genre would easily find a lot to love. I'd probably wait to see one of Steam's famed sales hit this title before taking the plunge myself, but that's mostly because I'm a cheapskate when it comes to my gaming.

Defense Grid 2 pushes what you can do to a tower defense game as far as possible and still have the game remain a tower defense game.

Defense Grid 2 is more Defense Grid, meaning that this is one of the better entries in the genre that you can currently pick up on Steam. It brings back everything fans liked about the first title, while coming up with mechanics that ease the stress of failure that can come with the genre.

Defense Grid proves it's still the best tower defense series on the market, but that's mainly because everyone else stopped trying.

While not being as much of a leap forward for the tower defense genre as the first game, Defense Grid 2 oozes quality and will provide both DG veterans and newcomers alike with hours and hours of enjoyment.

Defense Grid 2 is a must for tower defense enthusiasts and even more so those who aren't, with so many customization options for gameplay and the addition of Steam Workshop support, the replay value is phenomenal and one that we'll be visiting for a long time to come.

Probably the best tower defence game there is. Nothing more, nothing less.

Unfortunately, although it initially feels as though there is a wealth of content here, it soon becomes clear that Defense Grid 2 doesn't have an awful lot to offer in the long run and, as one of the higher priced games in the Xbox marketplace, doesn't really deliver a gaming experience worthy of its price point. It's great fun in short bursts though and fans of the genre will enjoy the challenges offered by some of the more intense game modes.

There's no denying that Defense Grid 2 is an absorbing experience, and its low barriers to entry ensure it should appeal to seasoned RTS vets and tower defence noobs alike. For lovers of the blueprint, it's really not that hard to see why this series has become synonymous with the genre, and that in itself should be recommendation enough.

Defense Grid 2 is a stellar tower defense game that manages to bring back the great recipe of its predecessor, while adding plenty of elements to make it more complex. The co-op and competitive modes are pretty fun but take some time getting used to, while the story campaign is as feature-filled as ever. Bear in mind that the difficulty increases dramatically towards the mid-point of the campaign, so constant improvement is necessary.

Tower defense games may have few representatives in the current scenario, but Defense Grid 2 fills this gap with praise, presenting a fun and dynamic gameplay, in addition to good challenges and a very high replayability factor. If you miss this type of game, I strongly recommend that you give this title a try.

A sequel that expanded and improved in all the right places, and avoided the temptation of fixing things that weren't broken.
