Nova Covert Ops Mission Pack 1 stumbles out of the gate by being too timid to go all-in and fully flesh out some of its more interesting ideas. Kicking ass with Nova’s diverse equipment builds can be entertaining, and the new and returning voice cast do a laudable job bringing the StarCraft universe back to life after the conclusion of its grand arc. Unfortunately, they’re given a pretty lame environment to do it in, both in terms of the scenario design and the story execution. I sincerely hope the remaining six missions get a better footing.

A good start to Starcraft II’s DLC, Nova Covert Ops delivers a fun and tense opening chapter, but suffers from a lack of story content.

StarCraft II: Nova Covert Ops doesn't deliver anything that you haven't seen before, but it does it in an engaging way that sufficiently supplements the universe. If you aren't big on the massive time investment that a typical StarCraft campaign warrants, this is a nice little alternative.

With a ho-hum story and three run-of-the-mill missions that last for an hour of gametime, you may want to wait until you accept this particular Op.

Although I wish there were more missions and that some new mechanics had been introduced, there’s some fantastic Starcraft narrative and gameplay here. The price to content ratio is fair, and this is the closest we’re likely going to get to experience what Starcraft: Ghost could have been. If you enjoyed the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss campaigns you’ll get a great kick out of Nova Covert Ops.

StarCraft 2 Nova Covert Ops Mission Pack is a fun albeit short StarCraft experience but Blizzard really set the foundation for things to come and I can’t wait to see it play out. With around 2 hours of gameplay, maybe a bit more if you pace yourself, Nova Covert Ops is definitely a must have add-on for all fans of StarCraft 2.

By continuing the StarCraft II story, with the same impeccable production design seen in the full games, Blizzard has all but ensured that Legacy of the Void was in no way the end of the great strategy series.

The company would do well to deliver both Pack 2 and Pack 3 of the Nova Covert Ops for Starcraft 2 at the same time, even if players have to wait a little longer for it, and to also find interesting ways to tweak the mechanics of the franchise to make the missions unique and solid enough to support a new major storyline.
