Star Fox Guard is a fun entry in the tower defense genre set in the Star Fox universe. The visuals are a bit on the plain side and it doesn’t quite have the depth of popular entries in the space such as the Plants vs. Zombies. The gameplay is solid, however, serving as a refreshing take on both the tower defense genre and the Star Fox series.

Starfox Guard is a small game, well thought - especially in terms of progression - and with an online component that enriches the gaming experience. It has small expectations and gets straight to the point.

This isn't a good-looking, sophisticated or hugely innovative game. The graphics are basic and the controls can be tricky. Switching cameras is a nightmare when you can't remember the positions, making the business of stemming the tide of bots a little more stressful than it should be. Yet Starfox Guard turns out to be weirdly addictive. As a bundled extra it's well worth a go. As a £10 extra, it's still just about worth a punt.

Star Fox Guard offers a cleverly designed asymmetric gameplay concept on a tower defense game based on the Star Fox series. Its mechanics are simple but very effective and its content is large enough for a long and fun experience, whether solo or online.

It is definitely one of those games thats fun for everyone, no matter the age, even if it can get a little frustrating at times. At £12.99/$14.99 we think this game is a steal. With so much to immerse yourself into, it will definitely have you hooked for hours.

Given the digital price of Star Fox Guard, it’s an okay casual game but it doesn’t have too much depth or replay value once you have completed. It’s fun at the time, yet ultimately forgettable and the links to the Star Fox universe are tentative at best. Nonetheless, it’s a clever twist of a mobile tower defence game that successfully uses the GamePad and your TV to transform you into a “Star Fox” security guard for Slippy Toad’s uncle!

It may have come late in the console's life cycle, but the robot-zapping mayhem in Star Fox Guard is another reminder of the Wii U GamePad's largely untapped potential. Who knew that it would be Grippy Toad's entreneurship that would let us witness another flicker?

Star Fox Guard is an innovative title with a good deal to do and a number of possibilities for its online community. Player’s ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure is the standout factor that will really affect their overall experience. Not being able to focus on multiple things at once will easily frustrate gamers as they are quickly overwhelmed by an army bots.

Star Fox Guard is a poor attempt at making a tower defense game with a Star Fox skin. The progression is poor, levels aren't exciting and it's all around just a boring game.

Star Fox Guard may not be a new main entry in the series, or even a fellow rail shooter, but it’s got heart, effective design, and “one more try” gameplay. It mostly matches it’s dollar value, not for a Nintendo game, but for a game in general.

Expanding Star Fox Guard into something that could be played online seemed like such an easy and obvious addition…which is why I’m glad they did it.
