While it may be easy to disregard Blossom Tales as a simple Zelda clone, the amount of charm and effort put into making it wholly unique, while honouring its inspiration, is both admirable and deserving of attention.

Do you like the 2D Zelda games? If so, Blossom Tales is the perfect substitute until the real thing eventually comes along for the Switch. The story is entertaining and the world is fun to explore. It might be a little too close of a copycat for some, but it’s charming enough to stand on its own.

... Blossom Tales stands tall even next to its legendary predecessor. It starts with its storytelling. Zelda games can get slightly repetitive with the “evil entity steals or harms the princess” arc, and admittedly, Blossom Tales doesn’t stray too far from that.

Overall Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King delivers on its promise in recreating a gaming classic and gives us an ode to one of the best games of all time. Could it have done a bit more to be different? Yes, though perhaps that is its strength - its not pretending to be a completely different game, rather it pays homage and adds a few small features that comes together as a fun experience.

Blossom Tales takes much of it's rule book straight from A Link to the Past and manages to adapt relatively well. Whilst the game lacks some of the polish and charm of it's inspiration, it doesn't stop the game from being good in it's own right.

Where The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild broke free from the long-held conventions that the green tunic-clad hero’s adventures had been built around, Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King pays an irrepressibly charming tribute to them. This quest to save the Kingdom of Blossom from eternal darkness is a standout addition to the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch, and one that I’m certain many will enjoy sinking hours into.

You can see a lot of work has gone into Blossom Tales and the characters and pixels will take you back in time for a fun time. It teaches that you shouldn't judge every SNES looking game as a Zelda rip off and appreciate everything for what it likes to do differently. A fun adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed to listen and play through.

Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is an adventure strongly inspired by theLegend of Zelda saga that offers us a whole world to explore. We will have several dungeons full of challenges and puzzles, as well as several objects to get and secrets to discover. It's true that it doesn't risk too much in its development and the translation leaves a lot to be desired, but still it's a game that will keep us entertained for several hours.

Blossom Tales proposes a wide world to explore, full of content and with enjoyable gameplay, not to mention a marvelous visual style. While the game may be trying to reach a higher status than it can, Blossom Tales certainly provides for a good adventure and exploration experience in the Nintendo Switch and it's yet another welcome addition to its growing catalogue.

Judging a game on its own merits is very important. However, when a title happens to borrow just about every aspect of its design from an iconic game series, it's hard not to acknowledge. Claims could be made that a game like this is nothing more than a shameless clone, but thankfully in the case of Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King, the developer has intentionally crafted it with a sense of love and admiration of classic Zelda games. While it's not as flawlessly executed as the series it draws inspiration from and it doesn't add anything particularly groundbreaking, it's still a heartfelt tribute to the earlier entries in Nintendo's long-running series.

Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is not the most innovative, nor is it the most challenging action-adventure, but it has plenty of heart. More importantly, it's finely-tuned and constructed in a manner that respects the player. There aren't any cheap hits, let alone cheap deaths, and progress is never halted by a poorly designed puzzle. Almost every aspect is balanced, and there's enough incentive to see and do as much as possible. All in all, this game is a quality throwback.

It’s a drop-dead gorgeous storybook of a tale, honors the mechanics and worldbuilding on whic it tills its soil, and at its best deserves to be checked out by any fan of classic 2D Zelda games.
