Symphony of the Machine

If you’ve been looking for a new puzzle game for your headset, Stirfire Studio’s latest release will offer a few hours of entertainment. However, if you’re not prepared to wrestle with occasionally finicky controls and your share of technical hiccups, you might want to look elsewhere.
A wonderful game and one that works well with PSVR, however the game does gets very repetitive.
There are some great ideas, and experiments that have all been pulled off in Symphony of the Machine, and with a little more time in the oven to cook, this could very well have been one of the premiere experiences on the platform. The foundations are there though, so perhaps a sequel can expand on the idea, and knock off the rougher edges.
Symphony of the Machine is a short puzzle game that really taps into the concepts of virtually reality. The game is kept simple, whilst the puzzles are tactical and challenging. If you are looking for a great VR puzzle game that should only take a few hours to complete, give this gem a spin.
Symphony of the Machine excels with its puzzle gameplay and its use of VR, but things get wonky with the camera due to how often you have to reposition yourself on the level to achieve your goals.
I like the puzzles in Symphony of the Machine but it doesn't really do enough to differentiate itself from many other puzzle games out there. The lack of any real story, frustrating controls, and the short run time are also hard to overlook especially given the price and some of the other games you could pick up instead. If you're a big fan of puzzle games you might find what is here worth it otherwise you might want to wait for a sale.
Symphony of the Machine is a pleasant enough puzzle game, with its laser beam manipulation requiring a little out of the box thinking at times. However, it's a concept that we've seen before in VR, and niggles with moving around and interacting with this 3D space left me feeling a tad frustrated and disappointed.
Symphony of the Machine is far from the best puzzle game available on PlayStation VR. Although the puzzles are enjoyable and challenging and the ever changing environmental aspects make for a beautiful setting, it is ultimately let down by its short length, fiddly controls, and pesky bugs. Unless you're an entomologist in desperate need of examining some bugs, we'd suggest you check out some of the other VR puzzlers – there's plenty to choose from.
Symphony of the Machine is a zen VR puzzle, more focused on a soothing atmosphere and observation than on intense gameplay. With simple and intuitive controls, and its core mechanic based on manipulation of light, this could be an entry point for non-VR players, as well as a good entertainment for those more experienced. Despite being fun, the game is too short, which is why you should probably wait a price drop to get it.
