Critic Reviews for Devil May Cry HD Collection
A relatively competent remaster collection but the games are so old now that, without a full remake, newcomers will struggle to understand how they became so beloved.
Although the remaster work is closer to none (and theres even some little details from the originals that have been lost), these are two of the best stylish action games of all time (and Devil May Cry 2). If you've never played these games, this is the perfect time to do it: you'll hit the jackpot.

Devil May Cry HD Collection is quite the same HD Collection we've already seen on PS3 and Xbox 360, with just 1080p instead of 720p (and without any support for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X - you get 4K resolution only on PC). Game menus and many cutscenes are in SD and 4:3, hard to believe in 2018. But sadly true.

It's a shame that Capcom did not want to include new features that would improve the game experience of these 3 classics.

In the end, the Devil May Cry HD Collection is a lazy port of a set of lazy ports from six years ago, but it is technically the best way to play two fantastic games – and also Devil May Cry 2.
When factoring in on whether or not I can recommend this game to newcomers to the series, I honestly do not think I can; Devil May Cry HD Collection‘s re-release poorly-made compilation fails to show what made the franchise as popular as it is, while old fans of the series will be disappointed to see this game is nothing more than a rehash, and obviously, if you did not like the series already, then there is a high probability that this compilation will not change your mind.
____________________ “While there is something to be said for maintaining the original game, calling it a remaster really ought to have some modern comforts.
The chance to properly spruce up Dante's first three adventures has been missed here, and instead we get the already miserly remasters that appeared on PS3. At a time where it'd be great to remember why Devil May Cry can be so good, we get minimal effort and Devil May Cry 2.
