Critic Reviews for Tormentum - Dark Sorrow
Though some adventure game tropes serve as an irritant in this game, the gorgeous artwork and dark story of Tormentum – Dark Sorrow more than make up for it.
Tormentum is a fun and intriguing point-and-click, thriving on unique art style and simplified mechanics that truly showcase how excellent the genre delivers narrative in a non-intrusive and natural way.
Tormentum – Dark Sorrow is grim, depressing, and not for the faint of heart. Do not expect a traditional feeling of 'fun' whilst playing this title, but instead a deeper feeling of satisfaction as everything clicks into place. Recommended for point and click fans and the morbidly curious, or perhaps for those who look for beauty in the darkest of places.
It really is unfortunate that Tormentum's puzzles slide in short as the art and characters work together very well, which is only heightened by the solid soundtrack. While the story is mostly barren for a majority of the gameplay, the characters manage to carry your interest in the happenings around you. Ultimately, Tormentum comes close to forming a great point-and-click adventure in 2015, but the lack of variety in the puzzle design really drags down the whole experience.
Tormentum feels like one of the dreams I (and many other teenagers) had from time to time. Inspiring to the imagination and often evocative, but easily forgotten.
I did enjoy exploring the world and solving those puzzles, but in terms of HR Giger-inspired adventure games Dark Seed still beats it hands down.
Though held back by brevity and lukewarm writing, Tormentum sports truly inspired art direction that always pleases the eye.
