Quantity over quality has never been exhibited so perfectly as it is here. Having 150 games is undoubtedly impressive, but when the vast majority of them are barely decipherable, let alone playable, you're probably only really left with around 15 titles that will hold your attention for more than a minute.

If you're the type of gamer who appreciates a mix of little-known games and classics that paved the way for better versions, Atari Flashback Classics might be up your alley. Even if you've played a good number of these games so many times already, having them in handheld form is something. With a small selection of achievements and leaderboards, this collection has replayability too.

Atari Flashback Classics offers a vast look back into the history of an important time in games, but may offer little of interest to those without nostalgic feelings for it.

Ultimately, Atari Flashback Classics is a fine collection. The sheer quantity of entertainment software is reason enough to warrant a look. Alongside certified arcade greats, is a wealth of middling-to-fun Atari 2600 and 5200 titles.

Atari Flashback Classics may be missing some slices of the golden age of arcade history, but the licences and features it does have are enough to warrant a purchase for the casual collector. Despite there being a huge amount of games on offer, a lot of them are either copycat concoctions of more successful games which are still found here or multiple system ports of the same game.

There’s some fun to be had here, don’t get me wrong, but with a little more time and effort, and some better choices of games this could have been a solid recommendation.

The Atari Flashback Classics collection is, hands down, the most ambitious collection of games I’ve ever seen. It consists of a library so vast with different styles that anyone can go into it and find a game they enjoy. It may be missing one of the biggest developers and game which was ever made (Namco/Pacman), but the weight of the legacy of the other games makes this collection a must-have for retro game lovers!
