Gato Roboto is a budget priced title on Switch that puts many more expensive games to shame. It's cute story, vibrant world, and unique art and audio. Definitely pick this one up.

Devolver Digital is hitting it out of the park this year with their indie game lineup, adding Doinksoft's Gato Roboto to its growing list of must-play games. Gato Roboto is a charming and challenging metroidvania that at first glance might not be your cup of tea, but then you'll realize that its mechanics and gameplay are deeper and more aligned to classic games of the genre.

Much as I enjoyed playing the game, it left me a little conflicted. While the style and controls are fantastic, there just isn’t a lot of meat on the bone for ravenous Metroidvania fans. That said, I enjoyed all the time I spent with Gato Roboto, and other than the aforementioned glitches, it played effortlessly. For $7.99 I couldn’t put the game down, and that says a lot. Once the developers manage to fix that glitch, you can add another star to my score. But for now, I could only highly recommend this one to other hardcore Metroidvania addicts like myself. Here’s hoping we see more adventures with Kiki from doinksoft in the near future.

Unfortunately, most of the time the experience is pretty lackluster, and ultimately its problem is that it doesn’t do anything new – despite its quirky premise, it feels uninspired. It feels less like the euphoria of a cat café, and more like tending a litter box.
