Gato Roboto features some charming animations and character interaction between Gary and his beloved kitty cat. The only truly disappointing thing I found about the game is that its over way too soon.

Don't let the endearing protagonist and lo-fi, vintage visuals fool you: Gato Roboto is a challenging, pedigree Metroidvania. But what sets it apart from its peers are the quality of life improvements that redress all of the genre's worst flaws, without blunting any of the barbs. This is a Meowtroidvania worthy of the name.

While genre diehards may lament Gato Roboto for being too easy, those looking for something more lighthearted may want to consider this charming little Meowtroidvania adventure.

Much as I enjoyed playing the game, it left me a little conflicted. While the style and controls are fantastic, there just isn’t a lot of meat on the bone for ravenous Metroidvania fans. That said, I enjoyed all the time I spent with Gato Roboto, and other than the aforementioned glitches, it played effortlessly. For $7.99 I couldn’t put the game down, and that says a lot. Once the developers manage to fix that glitch, you can add another star to my score. But for now, I could only highly recommend this one to other hardcore Metroidvania addicts like myself. Here’s hoping we see more adventures with Kiki from doinksoft in the near future.

While there’s certainly an abundance of Metroidvania titles on the Switch, to date Nintendo’s premiere ass-kicking heroine Samus Aran has yet to appear on the system...

A game with a lot of personality and charm... but far too simple in every other aspect, especially when compared with the best examples of the metroidvania genre. Nevertheless, Gato Roboto is pretty fun, and few games let you become the more powerful cat in the entire universe (none, really).

Gato Roboto is an adorable metroidvania that never lowers its rhythm: the controls are perfect and the feeling is the right one, ideal for alternating shootings, platforming and exploration.

If you can get over the fact that Gato Roboto doesn't revolutionize the Metroidvania genre, you're in for a fun time. With an incredibly charming art style and genuinely fun gameplay, you won't regret aiding Kiki on this action-packed adventure.

While Gato Roboto could stand to be a more fleshed-out metroidvania game, it's still a highly enjoyable action game overall. Kiki's adventure is one chock full of classic NES-era action, nicely challenging combat, fun gameplay and charming visuals. It's a short burst of action, but one you won't forget anytime soon. So thankfully, there is more to the game to love beyond just a cat inside a mechanical suit. But come on, can you really resist Kiki's kickass cuteness?

Gato Roboto might lean a little too heavily on homage, but never truly in a bad way. It might be more goofy than great and more adorable than original, but the game still delivers a pint-sized prance that comes together nicely even if it's a little short. This follows through on the premise of Meowtroid extremely well.

While the rewards in hidden areas aren't as satisfying as you might expect from a game like this, Gato Roboto's tense, creative boss battles with a talking rodent are an absolute delight.

With tight controls, retro-styled minimal art style and a superb sense of progression, this is the perfect Metroidvania to play whilst you're waiting for an actual Metroid or appropriate Castlevania game.

Gato Roboto offers a synthetic and concentrated experience of a Metroid-like adventure. doinksoft game's ticks every boxes of the genre, delivering a high-speed rhythm all the same, but falling short after three little hours.

Gato Roboto is an absolutely great game. That doesn’t mean it’s without flaws, but the few that are present are easily overshadowed by the brilliant pixel art, often refreshing humor, and fun gameplay. Even stages that are often the downfall of a Metroidvania such as a water level or chase sequence are done incredibly well.

Devolver's new Metroidvania-lite game Gato Roboto is an entertaining monochromatic Metroid homage, but isn't particularly memorable or deep.

Overall, Gato Roboto is a fun little action game with a bit of exploration that doesn’t do all that much gameplay-wise to stand out from the pack. However, I don’t want that to be taken in a bad way; this game is a perfectly solid and entertaining experience, and I had a great time running through it.
