Critic Reviews for Eagle Island
A refreshing hybrid of Metroidvania and roguelite, unfortunately hampered by inconsequential power-ups.
Eagle Island is an enjoyable rogue-like game and an unenjoyable Metroidvania that is fortunately pulled up by the fun combat system, beautiful art style and addictive dungeon crawling.
Eagle Island is vibrant and worth a look for its world and story, but the combat lets the overall experience down.
Eagle Island is rife with outrageous promise, but despite its beautiful art and sound fundamental controls, everything else on the periphery falls short. This is an elegant trip that is overburdened by pratfalls and reiteration.
Eagle Island is charming, full of like and a good compromise between roguelite elements and exploration. Sadly, its less than accurate targeting system and often frustrating combat makes it a chore to play, especially during later stages.

Eagle Island promises a lot, but whether it ever truly delivers I cannot say, because after two days with it I am plain done. I was never quite enjoying it as much as I wanted to, and it never quite came together even during the brief window when the plot took a turn and it looked like it was about to really open up.
