Critic Reviews for Reventure

Reventure, from Pixelatto, is one of the indie surprises this summer. A very fun game with a great sense of humor. Never dying a hundred times was so rewarding.

Reventure is a fun and simple adventure which might seem too much of a cliché at first but which includes some very creative and interesting game mechanics, not to mention many, many different endings. The game is also rich in humour and fits the handheld format of the Nintendo Switch just perfectly. Those looking for lush environments might feel disappointed, as visual simplicity reigns in Reventure.

Reventure is a creative take on the adventure-platforming genre. It pokes fun at classic Zelda-isms while providing an enjoyable way to forge your own path by finding all 100 endings to the game. This humorous game makes excellent use of its retro graphics and audio to create something truly unique and downright enjoyable. Check it out!

As a connoisseur of platformers, I knew I was going to like Reventure. What I didn’t know, was that I would constantly be thinking about it.

Those who thrive on finding every little secret and experimenting with all the possibilities a game offers will fall in love. Players looking for a clear, singular objective or a greater amount of complexity may not enjoy what it brings to the table. Its unique approach to endings, storytelling, and world-building make Reventure one of the freshest experiences in recent memory, and for my money it's a plunge that's worth taking.

Reventure plays like a puzzle adventure game that excels at the puzzle aspect and providing a feeling of completion, with very fun gameplay having me doing the dumbest things trying to get an ending. However, it falls short on its story.

Reventure is quite possibly the funniest game that I've played all year and there's some highly enjoyable gameplay here, too.

With that being said, the core gameplay loop may be fun for a while, but there really isn’t much of a surprise to some of the endings after a certain point, since a lot of them are obtained by dying, befriending, or killing NPCs. The more creative ones happen to be what produced a laugh out of me, but after a while it grew tiring starting over and over and over again. I kinda feel some more variety would have been much appreciated, and the gimmick wears out far too quickly.
