Build a deck of iconic heroes and challenge the forces of Sauron in this thrilling tactical card game. Travel through famous locations, complete story-driven quests and forge a new legend of Middle-earth on your own or with a friend in cooperative mode. But beware: the Eye of Sauron is searching for you. If you draw his attention, all will be lost... Answer the call of untold adventures, face the dark forces of Sauron and protect the Free Peoples of Middle-earth. Allies will gather, foes will arise and so your journey begins. The time has come for you to form and lead your own fellowship of heroes through immersive story-driven campaigns, each with its own unique narrative and challenges. Pick three heroes from some of the most emblematic characters of Middle-earth and build your deck around their specific abilities and powers. Each Hero has one of four spheres of influence, Leadership, Lore, Spirit, or Tactics, allowing you to play specific reinforcement cards while in-game. Choose wisely when building your deck and make the most of each of your heroes to get an edge over your opponents during the immersive campaigns. Set in famous locations across Middle-earth, you will enjoy hours of gameplay and choices to write your own adventure that will be sung for ages to come. While your journeys may contain great challenges, taking advantage of your heroes and decks will earn you victory in battle. Sometimes combining the strength of multiple champions from the same Sphere of Influence to increase its power can help you overcome the swarms of enemies that you will face. You might need to rely on your heroes’ Willpower to increase your Fate Pool and trigger powerful abilities that can turn the tide of battle. There are many ways to win, you must find the deck and strategy that works for your fellowship! Every quest will require you to experiment with strategies as you confront more and more terrifying foes, ranging from Giant Spiders to fierce Trolls, even hordes of powerful Orcs! The Dark Lord will do everything in his power to prevent you from completing your journey. Watch out for his Threat Pool which can activate story specific events to make your quest more difficult. Take care not to let the Threat Pool reach its maximum… or else it will turn the Eye of Sauron directly on to you!

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game Reviews

With a strong focus on storytelling, The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is a PVE collectable card game that will challenge – and sometimes infuriate – card game and strategy fans. While the "always online" demands and the original storyline are bewildering, the gameplay itself is deep and entertaining. Just be ready to shake your head when Sauron whoops up on you at the last minute. Stupid Sauron.

This adventure card game was designed with the love of Tolkien's licence. It is not flouted, but to fully appreciate it, you must still adhere to his world. Otherwise, we end up with a card game with poor content. We'll have to wait for for future additions. There is already an additional campaign, but it's not provided for free... Without this condition, we end up with a good card game, but no added value that makes it stand out from the competitors, especially free in a large number of case.

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game offers up an unusual mixture of cooperative play and narrative-driven battles that flies in the face of more traditional digital CCGs. If you're looking for a card game more aligned with the rules of a tabletop effort, with more of a role-playing focus, this is definitely going to appeal. The lack of proper support for online PvP is an odd omission considering how popular that feature is in other entries in the genre, but a refreshing lack of suffocating microtransactions does help soothe that wound.

I walked into The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game fully expecting yet another attempt to "do Hearthstone" on the Nintendo Switch. I walked away thoroughly impressed with how completely the game surprised me.
